Who makes the best American Civil War figures in 28mm scale?

Doc Ord09 Jan 2015 9:27 p.m. PST

I like Sash and Sabre along with Perry.

rustymusket09 Jan 2015 10:28 p.m. PST

Perry and Foundry Perry sculpts.

Although "best" was not defined, I'll still go with Old Glory. Although they can be finicky to prep, they paint up well and you can NOT beat the price, especially with the Old Glory Army deal -- and for the quality you get at the price, I'll define that as "best."

Sash and Saber

I think Redoubt does followed by Sash and Sabre as the figures have excellent character, but I also collect Foundry and Perry which which are good figures as well.

old Glory are 25mm, the newer Perry boxes zouaves and Confederate infantry are 28mm. The first box was also 25mm.
Foundry are great figures, well made and plenty of variety. Some Redoubt packs are very good some are odd.
Sash and Sabre have a `civil war` look about them and tip the balance for me

Sash & Saber.

Rhino Co10 Jan 2015 10:56 a.m. PST

Another for Sash and Saber

BelgianRay10 Jan 2015 11:09 a.m. PST

Redoubt, also by far the most complete.

jambo110 Jan 2015 11:14 a.m. PST

I like Perry Brothers, very nice figures.

Sash and Saber, no question

I'm a bit of a minority but my vote's for Dixon minis. they aren't to everyone's tastes but they are beautiful little figures IMHO.

Hlaven10 Jan 2015 2:42 p.m. PST

I use several brands mixed, all mentioned above; but my personal favorite is absolutely Redoubt.

Dennis10 Jan 2015 2:45 p.m. PST

Apparently the 2nd ed Old Glory ACW figures were sculpted by the same sculptor who did Sash & Saber, and they match for size.

1st corps make some nice figs and they do make up the bulk of my collection.

I have some old glory, primarily cavalry and casualty figures …they do stack up shorter and slighter than my 1st corps guys but not glaringly so?

Perry's have an excellent range …though i only have experience of their plastic figures who blend in well with metal mini's.

I really like some of the renegade rebs …though i have some compatibility concerns.

Wizard Whateley10 Jan 2015 7:18 p.m. PST

I'm with braken. Dixon for sheer variety and completeness, and they're a joy to paint.

pessa0012 Jan 2015 7:48 p.m. PST

Easily Redoubt for me. But not the horses …

YankeePedlar0113 Jan 2015 3:36 a.m. PST

Another vote for Dixon here!

Sash & Saber, hands down!

TheKing3029 Jan 2015 7:59 p.m. PST

Foundry and Perry. Renegade makes really nice figures but they don't blend well with other manufacturers.

Steve Barber23 Mar 2015 12:20 p.m. PST

Do take a look at our growing range of multipart ACW miniatures. All with separate heads. The range will continue to grow with limbers and cavalry to come. stevebarbermodels.com

Sash and Saber, Perry, Old Glory 2nd Edition. Then mix in interesting figs from other makers.

ACWBill29 Mar 2015 12:21 p.m. PST

Perry, Foundry and Sash & Saber.

ACWBill29 Mar 2015 12:23 p.m. PST

Steve, that's some nice looking stuff. Lots of character. How well do they match up with Perry, Foundry, Sash & Saber?

Steve Barber30 Mar 2015 12:35 p.m. PST

Hi ACWBill,
Thank you. There are quite a reviews online. But I know that they match well with several makes including Perry's and redoubt. To the extent that parts of different manufacturers figures are used in conversions. So I think they match up well. I hope that helps.

ACWBill02 Apr 2015 12:13 p.m. PST

Yep, thanks Steve. You will likely see an order from me after I complete my relocation to Atlanta.

GoodOldRebel25 May 2015 3:55 a.m. PST

Just purchased some Crusader Miniatures through North Star and I have to say I was very impressed! Nice posing, lovely sculpting with no visible flash!

Slightly shorter than my first corps boys but a little judicious base building up they will be fine! No plans at present to mix figures within regiments so the differences shouldn't be too glaring.
