Recent events compel me to do something I don't do nearly enough. I would like to offer my sincerest thanks to all those who work tirelessly to guard us while we sleep; who daily face a life of self-sacrifice and deadly risk; many of whom have made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of civilization. If you get up in the morning and put on a uniform and do your bit to keep chaos at bay, thank you. And God bless you.

Considering the fire we've been under lately here in the States, it is greatly appreciated. I'm blessed in having a wife that understands what drives me, but even she was compelled the other day to ask me why I do a job that requires me to wear a bullet proof vest to work every night.

The only answer I could give her was the same one I gave when I was asked when I first sat on a hiring board why I wanted to be a police officer. I have to be able to look at myself in the mirror when I shave, and I can't think of any civilian job that would allow me to do that.

My prayers are with the families of those officers killed in New York and Paris.

The news only shows the minority who are putting down those who put their life on the line. The majority of us who live here respect and are thankful for all the people who put on a uniform and fight the good fight. Thanks!

Zargon08 Jan 2015 9:14 a.m. PST

Yeah, I kick your tin all the time lawman, but I am more appreciative than you think.
Simply. Thank You.

The Silent Majority agrees. Thank you, any and all.

Yes, thanks to all those in uniform … all those that chose to go in harms way … thumbs up

No problem Zargon, there's many a time my tin needs kicking. :)

Interesting … the "A Word of Thanks to All Satirists and Cartoonists" got 28 posts. While the

sincerest thanks to all those who work tirelessly to guard us while we sleep; who daily face a life of self-sacrifice and deadly risk; many of whom have made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of civilization. If you get up in the morning and put on a uniform and do your bit to keep chaos at bay
only got 11 ? huh? I see where the bread appears to be buttered around these parts … wink

Try not to use butter. It clogs up the arteries including those leading to the brain.

Really … I use low fat margarine ! popcorn huh? I get the thinly veiled comment about me being stupid … But Thanks anyway …

Rebelyell200610 Jan 2015 5:02 p.m. PST

Well, this is TMP, so those sort of threads appear on a weekly basis, but this may be the first time I recall satirists getting a word of thanks.

Watch it Rebel, there be some abouts that don't take kindly to such ! huh? I never remember anybody attacking Mad Magazine with anything but words. But we are dealing with radicalized fanatical islamists jihadi terrorists here … so anything goes …

Rebelyell200610 Jan 2015 5:09 p.m. PST

I'm not worried. Back when the stifle tables were visible I had a few hundred, mainly from the people who didn't take kindly to such posts in the past.

There seems to be a number of those here … they appear to be growing in numbers ! huh? wink

I get the thinly veiled comment about me being stupid

That's your interpretation of course. I was clearly conveying a healthy diet tip.

My apologies though. I avoid reading the…..stuff… on the Ultra-Modern but this was cross-posted here & caught me unawares.

In light of the preceeding post: tinfoilhat. Glad to give the new emoticon a work out.

@ Legion 4
Being a recently retired Police officer, I take your point about the numbers of posts, and would like to thank all who took the trouble to post here.

I can see why the 'Je suis Charlie' came about,I fully support freedom of speech, and while I deplore the actions of the terrorist, and applaud the good guys response, I'm amazed at the whole worldwide response.

I was in London when the 2005 bombs went off and had a very small part in the casualty bureau. I don't remember as much worldwide response to that. Whatever happened to 'I am London Transport'? Perhaps we un-emotional British don't draw the same response (stiff upper lip being what it is).
