"Tale of an Epic Gamer - the beginning" Topic

I have decided to join the Tale of an Epic Gamer painting project on the TacCom forum, but thought I would share my progress here as well.

My goal is to paint at least 700 points of Epic figures each month in 2015. I hope to complete four different 2,000 point Epic 40k armies.

I have started with Orks and have made good progress so far.

Nice the only Ork Clan worth a damm.

Oh and a fast way to paint Infantry is to line up the sprues and spray paint them, then turn them around and spray the other side.

Then paint on the the details.

Which is why my Epic Eldar are Ulthwe.

@Mithmee: I usually glue the 6mm infantry to a strip of balsa and then spray them and paint them while still attached to the strip. I then take them off and mount them on the base. I don't like to do them on the sprue because you will have all the touch up where the sprue connect.

True but those are usually the areas were you have to repaint anyway Helmets, guns, etc…

For marines on the sprue and spray painting I run along cutting the contact points except on the base…then the spray goes everywhere

I finished the Nobz and the gretchin. I have the first batch of Bonecrushas and 1 unit (18 bases) of boyz nearly done. I hope to post pictures of them by the end of the week.

I did a test model for a detachment of Goff Gutrippas. I'd love to hear some thoughts on how it turned out. I like it, but I could be persuaded to make changes.

I changed up the Goff Gutrippa by adding a little bit of red. I think it looks much better now and will likely go with this new color scheme for the detachment.

Let me know if you like the new look or if something is still missing.

I've been hard at work on my Orks and have finished the January goal I set for myself.

This month I've painted 12 Bonebreakas, 18 stands of ork boyz, 8 stands of gretchin, and 6 stands of ork Nobz.

This equates to 1200 points for NetEpic Gold and 850 points for NetEA.

Next month I will be working on a Biel-tan Eldar force.

Next up are some Eldar. I started on a few in January so my goal for February is kind of big; 2 Jetbike hosts, a Guardian host, and a Defender Host (Guardians with Falcons).

Nice paint job on those bikes !

I just found some old epic/space marine figures a while back and was appalled by the paint jobs. Not bad but not what I remembered. Then, most were done the week before the game.
Keep up the good work. Just a caution…. the best painted figures drop like flies on the table top. Keep a few ratty looking ones around for a reserve!

The project continues and now I have added a group of Falcons to upgrade a Guardian detachment to a Defender detachment.

I've also got another Windrider Host ready to be based.

Hmm, a Eldar Windrider Host usually comes with more JetBikes.

Like:

10 x Vipers
30 x Jetbbikes

I should know since I have two of them for my Epic Eldar army.

They were a must have in all of my Epic Eldar armies.

@Mithmee: It all depends on the version of the rules you are using. NetEpic Gold has 2 Jetbike squads and 1 Vyper squad as a Jetbike Host (also known as a Windrider Host). NetEA has any 6 Bikes or Vypers as a Windrider Host.

These are the two versions that I will be playing so am using their stats for the basis of building my forces.

You see the cards above that is the version I would use.

Because Epic should be large armies facing off and not small detachments.

But I also fought in battles where there were like 12 Eldar Titans on the tabletop and that was on one side of the battle.

I agree that Epic is about large armies facing off, but that edition of the rules with all the cards can be hard (and expensive) to get.

NetEpic Gold allows for large armies, but is a free download.

NetEA uses smaller detachments, but can still be used to field larger armies. It is also a free download.

True

But if you got in on it when it first came out and before GW killed it off.

It wasn't so expensive.

Space Marines
Eldar
Imperial Guard
Orks
Squats – they aren't dead in Epic

Man I loved the Epic games, loved reading the battle reports too, just seemed so much more…well, epic lol.

I'm also lucky enough to have all the boxed expansions/cards etc, including Hive War which I really loved.

So very true when compared with the forces and battle reports that I have seen today.

I've finished the goal I set for February. The force looks very nice (if I can say that about my own stuff) and in one month I've completed about 2,500 points of Eldar for NetEpic Gold.

Very nice! I actually dug out all my Epic stuff over the weekend, man I have a lot of it! Got to say this thread is making it very hard to resist getting some Epic stuff on the painting table…

My March goal was a Tyranid force. I've completed the models (a little late) and like how they look.

This force is 1,200 points using the NetEpic Gold lists.

Nids look REALLY nice but you need some of the larger creatures to really get things going, like a Dominatrix, Exocrine, Malefactor etc. Do you have access to any of them?

@Bob – Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I have most of the bigger beasts to add to the Nids. I've started with smaller stuff for all the armies so far. I plan to add to all of them when they get their next turn on the painting table. This is just the core of the force to build off of.

I skipped April to work on some terrain, but I'm back at it with some Imperial Guard for May.

This is the basic color scheme for the army. The helmet color will change for the different units.

@Etahnjt21- Thanks. I've learned the power of setting a goal each month and how well washes work for this scale.

I've finished my goal for the month and have added a good number of troops to the ork horde.

Here you can see 15 gunwagons, 12 dreadnoughts, 6 Nobz stands, and 15 Boyz stands.

These guys are not technically part of my established plan, but I picked them up for cheap at a convention and thought I would paint up a few to see how they look.

The models are Andrayadas from Dark Realm Miniatures. I will likely be using them as proxies for Necrons.

More Eldar this month.

Not bad for work for 1 month.

This was the last month of Eldar for the year so here is everything I painted this year for my Eldar.

This is about 5,600 points using the NetEpic Gold list. Not a bad little force. I have stuff to add, but for now these guys are done.
