Which rules do you prefer for the English Civil War?

shelldrake07 Jan 2015 12:14 a.m. PST

"Victory Without Quarter"… but I like the '1644' campaign system.

Yesthatphil07 Jan 2015 3:05 a.m. PST

Advanced Armati

FoG-R would also work reasonably well.

Peter Pig's "Regiment Of Foote" remains my current favourite.

Despite not liking Black Powder I don't mind Pike and SHOTTS for ECW. Other options are WarhammerECW or DBR

We used to have a lot of fun with Wargamer's Guide to the English Civil War (Bill Protz).

I will always love "1644".

Gush's "Renaissance."

Another vote for Victory Without Quarter.

Timbo W07 Jan 2015 12:29 p.m. PST

I still like Forlorn Hope, though only for the smaller battles as its very "factor-ey" and results in a headache if you have too many units.

bruntonboy07 Jan 2015 1:16 p.m. PST

Regiment of Foote, easily.

Pictors Studio07 Jan 2015 3:03 p.m. PST

I like Warmaster ECW.

SpuriousMilius07 Jan 2015 5:17 p.m. PST

I stand with Shagnasty for Gush's rules.

FoG: Renaissance is very well thought of and models different armies well with special rules.

We have always used "Regiment of Foote." I play it because the guy furnishing the game uses it. Its okay. The trick is to realize you can do more actions in a turn than you think. I can move three times? Wow!
