East Indiamen were built to resemble warships, primarily to intimidate pirates, (though it worked rather well against the Marine Nationale until Hamelin turned up…) The European style privateers are well covered in 1:1200 scale. There are a couple of junks available from Navwar & Langton, who also does a Sambuk in his renaissance range. Proahs probably don't need to be done at this scale but no-one does Bhagalas (sp?) and even basic info on them seems to be hard to find. |

Baghala seems to be the more accepted spelling… Or possibly baghlah, bagala or baggala… In any case the vessels were on average 100 ft (30 m) with an average weight of 275 tons. |
