How strong are Litko's 0.5mm (the thinner of their two magnetic bases bottoms) bases? Will they, for example, hold a 15mm DBX 3 figure cavalry stand inverted from a steel sheet? Will they hold a 15mm DBX elephant stand inverted from a steel sheet? For the elephant let's use the BH Sassanid elephant, a beefy and impressive pachyderm. |

I can stick a 28mm 25pdr gun with crew on the side of the fridge and it wont slide down. |

This is with the thinner magnetic base bottoms? Will it hold the 25pdr upside down from a steel sheet? |

I've used their flexible magnets for my Napoleonics for years. (Warmaster, too.) The heaviest bases have four 15mm cavalry figures mounted on them, and they work fine. I occasionally think they're a little too strong, as I worry that I'll break figures getting them out of the steel box they're in. I haven't broken anything yet. |

Area is as much a factor with the holding force of sheet magnets as the 'strength' of the sheet (which is usually related to its thickness). Because of the way they are magnetised small bases can be problematic as can very narrow bases. I have found that almost any base with a smallest dimension of about 30mm will hold almost anything that you can fit onto it – no matter which grade of sheet I use. Smaller bases are often fine but there is always a small chance of a weak 'pull' on them. Remember also that a thicker iron sheet to stand them on will improve the hold – up to a point. If you have trouble with bases being a bit too strong to pick up easily try putting a sheet of very thin paper under them – lift a corner of the paper and the base pops up. |

I used them for my warlord British forces. The plastics never move but the metal figures, especially the individual 20x40mm horse, shift if bumped even lightly. When I transport in my car I add a soft foam in the box to help keep them upright. My 40mm square bases are hard to pry off so I would agree with GildasFacit about the larger bases working best. |
