I'm looking for goals for a Western game aside from the usual kill-em-all victory goal. I found one but now I am unable to locate it. Any help would be appreciated. Jim |

Take a look at "Six Gun Sound – Blaze of Glory" from Two Hour Wargames, also Worthington Games, "Cowboys, Way of the Gun". Both offer scenarios that offer different goals. |

Not having played this type of game, I'd guess you could do: Cattle Drive – move herd from one location to another and counter rustler/indian attacks. Lost Mine – find clues to lost mine, then find the mine. Rescue the wagon train/damsel in distress. Bank Robbery – pick your side, in x amount of turns. (Could do the same for a stage coach robbery/escort) These ideas would need to be fleshed out quite a bit, but seem doable. Mike |

I ran a scenario in which a sgt and some troopers were out to capture a couple of deserters who were hanging low in town(so, that is two players), another player ran the law, another player ran a bandit gang that wanted to rob the bank. I believe I ran local townsfolk. |

Have Gun Will Travel episodes always have interesting plot lines. Also, try all the Clint Eastwood westerns. |

Whiskey…….. Cattle rustling. Rob the Wells Fargo stagecoach. Intimidate others to get off the land, or to keep off the land. Humiliate an enemy, or enemies, in front of the townfolks, or their women. Pan for gold, and protect your claim. Get the gold to the surveyor's office, without being robbed. Search for a grizzly, wolfpack, or mountain lion, preying on your livestock. Survive an indian attack – escape, since your down to your last few rounds of ammo. Cross the desert, in the height of Summer, after the stagecoach broke an axle. Cowboys and Aliens, redux? |

All of the above Rescue your compadre from the town jail Kidnap a visiting banker Reunite with your lost first love I have not played any Western games, but when we play Back of Beyond in Interwar China we often give the various players different goals I can see how you might have four players, each with a different goal: "El Gordo" – rescue your henchman from the jail and an impending lawman's noose Standing Bear – get into the town store and steal ammunition for your warriors Black Bart – kidnap the daughter of Big Jake, the richest landowner in town Lieutenant Greenhorn – escort an army paywagon full of gold through all of the above |

I have found that the magazines that deal with the Old West often offer some good scenarios. One that did once had to deal with Tombstone, prior to the OK Corral. Prior to that time Tombstone was filled with a lot famous gun fighters, besides the Earps and Clantons. Each side had brought in a different personalities to help them take over or keep control several of the local gambling houses. There were three different establishments involved, one was to be taken over by ambush, the other the aggressive player had to force the other player into a gun fight, and the third was designed to keep the "friends" from coming to the aid of the other two establishments. |

I have faction cards made up for my Trwnn games. There are around 20 factions. Each faction has an opposite enemy factions or factions. Their objective is spelled out along with their quality. Instant game scenarios! |

I ran a game on our club night and at our Con that had two gangs, each having multiple objectives. The objectives gave points as they were completed, the side with the most at the end won. Lawmen: Kill bad guys = 2 pts each Put Bad guy on gallows back in jail = 3 pts; still in cell at end of game = 3 additional points. Desperados: Kill lawmen = 1 pt each Kill townsfolk = 1 pt each Get money from bank off of the table = 5 pts Rustle cattle from corral to off board = 1 pt each The key was to have the starting areas set up correctly. And to be sure that your points values will give each side a chance to win. The lawmen were divided up as follows: Sheriff: on gallows platform 3 deputies: in Sheriff's Office 3 deputies: in Marshall's Office 1 deputy with rifle: on rooftop 2 deputies: on patrol somewhere in town, not in a building or on roof Desperados: 1 member with rifle: on rooftop NOT occupied by the deputy 3 members: in bank, one carrying money The Rest: divided up equally into groups and placed anywhere in town, NOT in a building, and NOT within 12" of a lawman. Obviously, this scenario can change based on size of the town and the gangs you have. The main point was it gave everyone something to do, and very often events were happening away from the rest of the action. In one of the Con games, a young fella (about 9 years old) was given one desperado and the task of rustling the cattle. He successfully got all 6 steer models off of the board for 6 points! |
