I'm hoping someone can help me locate a range of boardgames that I saw a few years ago when I attended a gaming convention (Rock Con).

A guy was introducing a new line of old Avalon Hill boardgames. He had increased the size of the hexes and playing pieces to a size that old-timers could both read and handle. We played the WW2 Russian Campaign or Stalingrad (can't remember which). He was working on other games as well.

Does anyone know about these games?

Thank you

Try avalonhillgeneral.org and Camelot Games (which will be linked from the first site.)

They both have a range of large maps/ mapboards and large type counters for a variety of AH games.

Might have been L2 Design Group.

The Russian Campaign: link

Streets of Stalingrad, not Stalingrad: link

Scroll down this page for a list of their other games: link You'll have to click through a couple pages of listings (in the blue bar at the top of the list of games).

Might even be No Retreat: The Russian Front from GMT Games which is s remake from another companies line. Big hexes and big chunky counters. That game out about four years ago (and its a great game).

Sounds like L2DG doing Russian Campaign. They sell a map/game kit blown up by about four times.

There is this firm that produces the SL boards using 2" hexes but the counters are the same size as the AH ones.

and there is this comparison of similar games to ASL, some hae larger counters.

There is also a guy who was doing this as a "service" in essence you ordered a given game from him and he printed off the map and counters. I don't think it ever took off…

As other have said, sounds pretty much like L2 Design Group reissue of The Russian Campaign (TRC4) in Mega Version format.

Although the rules were tweaked and improved in many important areas, I was certainly not a fan of the replacement of terms like Stuka and Panzer with "bomber" and "armor" (even ignoring the spelling). I wasn't mad about any of the new counter options either.

The good news is you can just get your hands on the new rules and play with your old kit. There were only a couple of significant changes to the main map and nothing too exciting about the terrain expansions.
