Is there anyone who plays these that could answer some questions?

wrgmr105 Jan 2015 2:53 p.m. PST

We play RF, however there is a Yahoo RF group that has lots of questions answered and the authors will answer as well. You can apply to join.

My questions are about small arms fire.

1. Is a fire group composed of one "unit" or can multiple units combine?

2. Are casualties ditributed among all "units". In the 4" diameter risk zone ? If so, are there any guidelines for this?

Thanks.

wrgmr105 Jan 2015 5:38 p.m. PST

1. A fire group can be a mix of figures from different units to a maximum of 12 figures. Each figure must be within 1" of each other to be in the fire group.
pg 52 of the rules.

2. Any number of figures from different units including guns an vehicles are targeted in the 4" circle.
If a there are two or more casualties and there is a Battalion CO or Artillery OP in the circle roll a second die, a 6 destroys either one; if there are both in the circle roll for both.
Pg 48 and 51.

Here's another one for you guys, if you would be so kind…

How do you handle speculative fire on buildings likely to hold enemy artillery spotters. E.G. A church spire or building which can itself be seen, but is not close enough to friends to spot the individual observer in that cover.

Rapid Fire does not allow speculative fire in the basic rules. 8.2 "Only individual buildings or ruins where troops have been observed (or observed entering or firing from) may be targeted."

In the case of an enemy artillery spotter you can attempt to observe using the observation table. "Normal" forces within 12 inches, "Recce" within 18 and "Artillery OP" within 24 can perform a chance test. By the way you can only perform this test once a turn, not once a unit, using the unit with the best chance to observe.

Section 14 in the advanced rules would allow for targeting but mostly for pre-game bombardments and would be pre-planned.
