I have saved so many of your pictures as so instructional…not just for the painting but the photography as well. Just how many shades of grey went into the overalls? The final effect is great. My real question though. I still struggle with green, although I have now learnt that you do not highlight by adding white but by adding earth colours (Archiduque's book!). Red is a cinch by comparison and white uniforms are impossible. Share with us how you did the green coats here. It worked so well…….. |

I agree with Deadhead, your painting is an inspiration for those of us who struggle to get your results. White Uniforms, I've recently changed the base from grey to pigskin yellow, first highlight is pigskin yellow and parchment white, then last highlight parchment white. See Burgundians on the left. Nobody lookin Romain's colour theory on you tube, all 6 parts? Here everything which you must know about colours and how to use them – i.e. paint – is well explained. With white you desaturate a colour, which you usually like to avoid when highlighting, you want the light saturated. Better than using white is for example ivory, or indeed on greens a light green. A real easy way to start with white is the Foundry Austrian White triad |
