Did some looking about today for fun, and holy Dwarf Altar of Doom, those prices are nuts!

$100 USD and up for old GW starter sets.
$300 USD for Battle of the Five Armies boxed set.
$50 USD for a single dwarf blister pack?!?! Heck, even $20 USD (more common) is absurd.

Yeepers.

Well, despite the fact that I could clearly clean up big time, I'm not selling mine.
But equally obviously, I won't be buying any "real" WM figs anytime soon, either.

Hooray for Copplestone Castings, Kaliistra, Eureka and others for giving us 10mm fans reasonable alternatives.

It doesn't matter what the seller asks. It matters what the buyer is willing to pay.

The prices aren't insane, the people paying them are. grin

Yes, but understand it is all about Supply & Demand. The value will always be what someone is really willing to pay for it. You can ask any price, but will someone pay it? The rare items are hard to find and worth huge $$$ but not the common stuff.

I have nine huge painted Armies of 10mm for LOTR and Warmaster. I've been offered crazy money for my 3,000 pt Kislev army. I only sell my extras off and get good $$$ on E-bay as auctions.

Oh, I firmly believe in the market process. I'm just not going to be participating in that market! laugh

Wow! I have an unopened Warmaster Empire starter army around here someplace. I guess I should sell it off to fund my current obsessions…

"Warmaster/Bo5A prices on eBay are insane."

It's not just the prices. eBay is insane!

I got some of the plastics in a lot on ebay. Made a killing on them.

I just bought a BOFA new/sealed for $150. USD I would like to buy another box, but no way im paying more than that though.

ajbartman05 Jan 2015 1:21 p.m. PST

I have 2 boxes. Both opened, but still could make some money..,

nazrat05 Jan 2015 2:58 p.m. PST

Ah, the old "I could make XXX dollars if I sell this" situation that I know so well! I have a bunch of painted Warmaster armies, and one huge Kislevite force still all in the little cardboard boxes in which it was shipped to my local GW store as a Special Order for an employee. He sold it all to me for slightly more than his cost and I know I could make my money back many, MANY times over but I am sure I would regret divesting myself of it, and then it would all be virtually irreplaceable. Sitting on gold mines, we are!

Looking at completed listings, I see much WM remains unsold. Super rare packs, like the Bretonians, go for stupid money but always have. Okay, some one paid $90 USD for an Empire starter. Sheesh! And $20 USD for some basic packs.

When WM came out, I bought a couple armies from GW's troll basement for $20 USD a starter box. Can you believe it? I also bought packs at 50% off from a local shop because no one played in the area i was visiting on business. The unopened packs then sat in my closet for ages because no one I knew wanted to game in such a small scale and constantly gave me grief. I sold them off years ago. Sigh. I was stupid because I gave in to peer pressure back then. Now I do as i please! Ok, had to get it off my chest. Lol.

My current plan if I choose 10mm over 15mm is to buy the specialty units like the steam tank on ebay for $15 USD which seems to be typical and okay and then use Pendraken and others for the rest of the army when possible. I'm not a purist any more. :-) There is a list from the Specialist forums for proxie figures.

But yeah, WM and Epic has gotten out of hand. Thank goodness for proxie miniatures in both games!

Yep,I keep eyeing that half painted BoFA box sitting on the shelves, wondering just how much spinach it would bring….Oh,and I got mine in that insane preorder price of $50 USD so many moons ago.

I bought Bo5A for half price new from GW waaaaay back when. $40 USD or so, IIRC.
I got a second boxed set in trade for a small collection of unpainted GW LotR Rohan and Uruk-Hai figs.
A fellow TMPer graciously sent me a metal Smaug blister, gratis!
I got my first Dwarf, Orc and Elf starter sets for half price way back when, too, from a FLGS.
Ditto the odd blister.
Two years ago I picked up another Dwarf starter set and an orc starter set for $15 USD each at a con flea market.
I traded something (I can't recall what) for a huge collection of half-painted or primed Empire and Chaos armies a few years ago.
I suppose I could sell some of all that off, but there's always that part of me that thinks "no, no, I'll paint those and play with them some day!"
So I may be a smart investor, but I'll never recoup it! laugh

It would really be funny if GW decided to re-issue all of the Warmaster figures and dropped the bottom out of the eBay market!! Of course I would be buying up *more* Warmaster figures if they ever did something like that… (not bloody likely).

ernieR06 Jan 2015 9:33 a.m. PST

GW's current pricing model would have them selling for the same price as on eBay , after all , people are willing to pay those prices for them !

doublesix6606 Jan 2015 10:03 a.m. PST

Ohhh I'm a millionaire I can now retire ;-) I've some 300+ blisters I wished that they would do some re-releases so I can get a couple of extra units, saying that how much would GW charge for WM or Epic blisters now?

JezEger06 Jan 2015 2:35 p.m. PST

I think they might do a Space Hulk type limited rerelease. They must check Ebay to see demand. Might not be worth losing shelf space in the stores permanently, but a one off, grab it while you can could prove profitable. Same with BFG.

Shadowcat2010 Jan 2016 3:07 p.m. PST

Been touching up my WM army the last few days…..could use more blisters of elves and Dwarves but have whole armies of unpainted stuff….sigh
