Hi are there any ranges available that are compatible with Perry? Anyone have comparison shots? Thanks for any help!

IanKHemm04 Jan 2015 8:24 p.m. PST

I painted up a bunch of Wurttemberg battalions last year (28mm Front Line) and several French battalions using Perry plastics.

As far as I'm concerned they go okay together but the Front Line are definitely larger. I'm not overly fussed as the battalions will always be in separate brigades/ divisions. Some folks might find the differential a bit hard to deal with. I also used Front Line French artillery crews which seem to work okay even though they are a little large compared to their compatriots.

I think you mean Front Rank, Ian. And yes they do.
My Napoleonic 28mm armies are mainly Perry and Front Rank. They work very well together, though the Front Rank are a bit chunkier. The difference is small, especially once they are painted, based and on the table.
I also highly recommend Calpe for Prussians.
Murawski Miniatures for Poles are superb.
I also have Eureka Miniatures for Saxon Heavy Cavalry, Westfalia and Calpe Miniatures for Saxon Foot.
Here are my forces arrayed at Historicon this year at the battle of Leipzig:

Oh, almost forgot… I also was able to use Foundry Russians to fill out my Perry Russian army. They were also sculpted by the Perry brothers while they were at Foundry. Usually Foundry are too small, but the Russian line is larger and fits well with the newer Perry line.

Here are your choices for Wurttemburg figures (scroll down to the bottom of the list!)……..

And here are some comparison photos showing Perry with other manufacturers…..

GDrover,
Ummm… Yes. Front Rank.
Very nice figures. I like them.

Front rank normally does, but the new(er) Wurtenburg figures, although very nice, are even larger than other Front Rank figures.
I am currently painting the Front rank Wurtemburg army and enjoy painting them a great deal, but they are barely compatible with the other Front Rank figures and so less so for smaller lines like Perry.

Thanks so much for all the very helpful replies everyone! Excellent information as usual from the people on this site.

I think this is fascinating and an important topic. We have seen many useful sites trying to show how some figures are taller, fatter, more stunted (or staring at the sky) than other manufacturers'. The snag is that there is scale creep as described here. Front Rank's reinforcement packs are far better proportioned than their earlier Hobbits. Foundry later releases are not as puny as their early stuff. Perrys' Prussian artillery drivers are emaciated compared to French Guard Artillery crews……almost 1/72 against 28mm!

It has happened since Airfix days. Who remembers the WWI German giants against the tiny WWI British or US troops?

Makers are inconsistent. So, you cannot always be sure that figures will go together even within a single range!

There is also a range of Wurttemburgers by Front Line, distributed by Bicorne, and they do look nice – less the light infantry, which are still okay. They are smaller than Front Rank, but mix okay.

I've just asked the Perry's the question will you be sculpting Wurttemburgers, to which Alan Perry rather speedily replied YES.

Don't have a time scale, but you could always ask the question.

Great news. Thanks for the heads up, Bob grin

Cheers Janner and gunnertog. Perry's say they are sculpting everything, but when I'm still waiting on Jaegers and Uhlans for Austrians (which they said they will do), and Guard cavalry in dress uniform for French, then I figure I might be waiting some time… :)

Bicorne Miniatures has earlier Wurttemberg and are slimmer than Front Rank. I have both and they fit in fine with Perry.

Thanks Tyler! Just looking at Bicorne site and I can't find images of many of their ranges, can anyone help me?
