So that you know one place to visit to potentially answer a whole lot of vehicle related questions?

Eventually, will all vehicles used in conflict up and including World War II be available in most scales for wargame/diorama purposes (28mm in particular)?

TheDancingCakeTin03 Jan 2015 12:09 p.m. PST

I think this is a splendid idea. Maybe there could be boards for individual periods? Early C20th, Inter-War etc? Or would that be too much?

JezEger03 Jan 2015 12:10 p.m. PST

What questions would there be that wouldn't fit in WW2 land, WW2 air etc?

skippy000103 Jan 2015 12:43 p.m. PST

A vehicle board to answer questions from carts to concept cars would be OK. Stuff like draft collars, traces, limbers to differential steering and idling.

Questions like 'How many refugees does it take to throw a track' should be right out, though.

Mark Plant03 Jan 2015 1:15 p.m. PST

It would always be linked across to the period board anyway. Who would ask a question about a particular vehicle and not ask the main audience?

TMPers are interested mainly in vehicles for the period, not the other way round. They would be on historical vehicle sites, or modelling sites if the vehicles were the prime interest.

however… if I was to ask a question about a world war one cart, an expert on carts in the franco Prussian war, might already have the answer…

So If we had tags with links we could filter by tags, and have appropriate posts..

I would prefer some meta tagging rather than a proliferation of sub boards, but if it helps more than it hinders….

No … But if so, we should have boards for such items as belt buckles, boots, shoes laces, underware, etc., etc. … evil grin

Maybe.

But let's have 1/72nd / 1/76th as well!

Yes. As mentioned above, the modeling of vehicles has a lot of commonalities across genres that could help people.

Having "boards" is the same thing as meta-tagging. You are assigning a category to the post that allows filtering by the tags. There are some features that more modern systems have that TMP doesn't …

1) User created tags. A horrible idea. Its hard enough to work around the board structure, let alone if everyone could choose their own categories. And its a terrible system for doing just what was mentioned above … a user interested in a specific type of vehicle may not realize (or even know how) to tag a question so a gamer focused on another genre with the solution would see it. It is much easier and more successful to walk through a list of fixed and marginally well defined topics than to tag your own.

2) Faster and simpler tagging. It could facilitate over tagging a post, but considering the hobbyist here rather than the population of the Internet at large, I doubt that would become a huge problem.

belt buckles, boots, shoes laces, underware

Its interesting that in your attempt to ridicule the idea of having vehicle called out for attention because of commonality across genres, everything you listed is fairly genre-specific.

Winston Smith03 Jan 2015 9:42 p.m. PST

I see no need for it.

Martin Rapier04 Jan 2015 3:22 a.m. PST

I really can't see the point or purpose of it as the category of "vehicle" is so huge you may as well call "wargaming".

Another "no" vote.

Why do we even bother with the procedure? We know this is going to happen. No reason for it, doesn't make sense. But there it will be.

If TMP gets a 'formula one' board, that's it, I'm jumping ship!
