The British book seller, Naval And Military Press, have just put up "The World's First SWAT Team" specially priced for only 5 GBP.

Don't let the title throw you, though. It's actually about the legendary Fairbairn who in 1920's Shanghai created a specially trained police force to combat every kind of criminal/revolutionary opponent where they lived--in the streets.

The same "Fairbairn" of the classic Sykes-Fairbairn Commando Knife, and the original book on dirty fighting with the purpose of killing the opponent as quickly and efficiently as possible, this appears to be a gold mine of scenario ideas, with maps of Old Shanghai streets, details of weapons and tactics used to defeat one group of organized criminals after another, not to mention putting some everlasting hurt on individual miscreants of all origins.

The price is a steal, but it won't last long, I fear. Follow this link to read more about it and order directly.

And Yank readers, don't be put off by ordering from Britain. You'll be pleasantly surprised how easy and affordable this can be--and remember that you're not going to find this title on the bargain table at Barnes & Noble!

Ordered the book >> it was such a bargain that shipping was more than the cost of the book. Really looking forward to it. Thanks, Patrick.

Could not agree more with the Virtual Armchair General apart from the daft title this book is great – the author had access to Fairbairn's collection of photos and the colour guide to the uniforms is excellent – I expect to see some representations of the SMP's 'Red Maria' armoured vehicle in use in Pulp/BOB games.

Couldn't resist; despite my self-imposed embargo on buying real books (as opposed to Kindle).

Thanks

Doug

Well, to borrow a well used phrase from a well known member of this site, "A votre service, Mes Amis!"

…Now if only Naval & Military Press would cut me a free copy for all the business I am sending them….

I ordered one as well. I have a book on Shanghai during this period that told a tale of organized and very violent criminal gangs. Always wanted to know more. I recall a Brit copper from Shanghai that taught "point shooting" during WWII. I have his small manual on the subject around here somewhere. He had numerous examples of shootouts he was involved in that always ended badly for his opponents. I agree the title is "daft".
