Very sad and shocked to hear of Allens passing. Enjoyed sharing his knowledge and even cutting remarks :)
He had a very strong presence on the wargaming scene and will no doubt be missed. I only just found out.

A real pity. He was very helpful to me when I was working on a little project a few years ago.

Allen sadly passed away on 16 September 2014. RIP Allen.

One of 2014's great losses.

combatpainter Fezian31 Dec 2014 6:22 a.m. PST

In the next 20 years we will lose lots of gamers. RIP

I've missed 'talking' cooking with Allen.

Sometimes caustic, always helpful, will miss his insights and knowledge.

Agreed, RIP.

Oh Bugger31 Dec 2014 9:03 a.m. PST

A decent lad who gave a damn, knowlegdable and much missed.

Died young enough too.

RIP.

The scary thing is both Allen and Hank were younger than me.

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP31 Dec 2014 10:07 a.m. PST

Tell me about it.

I'd not had contact/conversation with him, but from the testimonies, I will offer my condolences to the gaming buddies, real and virtually, who will miss him.

Has anyone ever learned of the cause? Since we attended ROTC together, he was not that old to have died of old age.

Reported as heart attack. Way too young. A lot of knowledge went with him. Not one to suffer fools, he had my respect for that.

I'll just add to the chorus. I saw an oblique reference a while back to him not being on forums anymore and I hoped it was nothing that bad. This is a real downer to me…we never met, but he helped guide me along on a lot on stuff, especially Pyrrhic. Well, I've got two copies of HATPW…I'll read them again and knock back a toast for Allen.

In pace requiescas, vir optime!

Just saw the information in the header on myself. I had no interaction outside of the various forums but I enjoyed reading his posts and rules. RIP.

I liked Allen. Even when I disagreed with him. He was occasionally grumpy, very knowledgeable, pretty witty with his remarks, and a good contributor here.

I miss him here on TMP. I liked when he got people's dander up.

Allan posted quit a bit on TMP an as others said was knowledgeable and caused people to get upset.
My kind of gamer.
A sad loss to all of us.

Oh Bugger01 Jan 2015 12:39 p.m. PST

Reported as heart attack.

It was indeed, in the shower, so quick, which is the best any of us can hope for.

Like many he had a hard row to hoe, and sometimes it showed but a good person all the same.

morrigan02 Jan 2015 1:24 p.m. PST

Didn't care for the man myself, but my sympathies go out to his friends and family.

Griefbringer02 Jan 2015 2:05 p.m. PST

I have lately gone through his Hannibal and Punic Wars book, and it is certainly an impressive work. It is a pity that his work on the Rise of Rome never managed to get published.

Mars Ultor02 Jan 2015 9:19 p.m. PST

I believe Rise of Rome got briefly released as various army lists (Etruscan, Roman, Samnite,…)that reminds me that I think I have a printed copy somewhere. I'll have to look for it after two moves.
