I was wondering what your opinion was on this rule set? How detailed is it in regards to a simulation? Thank you for your time! |

Very much a game and pretty abstracted, but- and a big but, it's a GREAT game! It would be easy enough to modify with house rules – the "commander" series of games, blitzkrieg, cold war etc all developments of warmaster. But yeah it's a fun game, check out the Yahoo group. |

It is as much of a simulation as any game out there for some things. It doesn't do well with skirmishers however. |

Hail Caesar uses a number of mechanisms from Warmaster. |

It is very much a game. It is like the fantasy version of Warmaster, or Battle of Five Armies from a few years back. Units are three stands of figures each, dice are rolled for each commander to give orders. A failed order roll means that commander can issue no more orders this turn. Units can be given second and subsequent orders at a penalty to the orders check. It is a lot of un to play and does offer a pretty nice variety of armies and troop types. |

I played it one time. I seem to remember that once a unit lost a stand, it became pretty much ineffective. |

In my opinion it is more a game than a simulation; a very fun game also. Even so I have moved from it to Hail Caesar. |

We just completed our 7th annual club tournament and had a great time. The rules provide a very fun and exciting game that looks great, especially when you have a large number of units. Hail Caesar did evolve from these rules, but in my opinion lost the risk element in WMA, where pushing things too far can have consequences. Here's our club's WMA page; wfhgs.com/ancients.html |

Hail Caesar and Black Powder feel like the Perry bros had a huge hand in taking out all the push your luck aspects that make the WM line so much fun and nail biting. HC and BP feel so much more predictable to me. WMA is my game of choice. There are free counters out there for the game to give it a try. Check the free fantasy version to see how you like the game. Note i am not a hardcore ancients gamer. Ymmv. |
