The January WI has an advert from Partisan Press re 2 new ECW scenario booklets (vols 3 and 4). It suggests they are suitable for all rules systems. Has anyone used these(or the earlier volumes 1 and 2 ) and what were the results? I favour DBR and FOG Renaissance rules for this period at present. Views appreciated. Regards Alan

If you were lucky enough to have Charlie Wesencrafts book 'With Pike and Musket' you could use his battle scenarios.

They could be easily converted to any ruleset!

These may be the scenario books I recently commented on. Have a look at link

Alan If they are the ones in the post above I have them. They are not new – I have had them for a few years at least.

They are good scenario books – a description, maps, OOBs with 'real' troop numbers and then suggested figure numbers based on a ration (which varies as some of the smaller battles they suggest 1:10 to get enough figures on the table to give a balanced game).

I have played some of the scenarios in vol 3. They are just fine; the rules set we use make for some basic mathematics to get the number of stands/figures but thats about it. My favorite the battles of Southam & Dunsmore Heath most enjoyable.

Thank you all for your comments. These booklets are indeed the ones reviewed by Wargames Room. Would make useful additions to my library then. Regards Alan

Do any of these scenario books have a good OOB for Marston Moor? I have had a bit of trouble finding the OOB, but have probably not looked in the right places.

49mountain,

No, the Partizan Press Scenario books 1-4 do not cover Marston Moor.

The Canadian Wargames Group rules, "For God, King and Country" do have a map and OOB for Marston Moor (pages 24-25 for OOBs and page 26 for map).

I am sure that there are other publications that do as well.

Most of the Scenario Book actions are less well-known and often smaller.

49Mountain,

I am pretty sure that there is an Osprey Campaign book on Marston Moor . . . and I cannot believe that it would fail to include Orders of Battle.

As well there are many other books on Marston Moor . . . you might want to start at your local library.
