I got an order today I made nearly a month ago from War Times Journal. 1/2400 WWI ships in plastic. These are absolutely magnificent and were well worth the wait. They are as good as GHQ and that is saying something as those are great in and of themselves. wtj.com/store/index.html |

Can you tell me, are the turrets separate like GHQ does, or are they cast on, pointing fore and aft? |

There are no separate pieces to any of the castings I've purchased. They come as a single piece. Having said that, if you want hyperdetailing that isn't already cast in (masts, extra boats, davits, cranes, etc.) you have to buy/fabricate it and glue it on yourself. You can get a pretty good idea what's cast onto the model already from pictures on the site (though it's admittedly difficult to discern details on translucent plastic models…). - Ix |

As good as GHQ, seriously? Could you post a side-by-side pic of something? I has a skeptical. |

I'm sorry I don't have any GHQ to compare to, Marius may. I too was very impressed with the quality of WTJ's casts. Japanese Armored Cruisers |

Link to Images GHQ German BB Konig $13.50 USD link WTJ German BB Konig $7.75 USD wtj.com/product5974.html WTJ models are phenomenal. I own several pre-dreads. I am very satisfied with the quality. Very high detail. Gun barrels are separate, no cutouts, overhangs, or even seams (3d printed). As stated previously by Yellow Admiral, turrets are NOT separate, one single piece. Jim @WTJ, cleans, preps, and individually packages the models for shipping. WTJ makes the models when ordered, so it takes time to deliver. Normally it takes 2-3 weeks to receive your order. The holidays may have slowed his production and delivery, but that should return to normal after the holidays. - ZG |

Their webpage also offers tips on how to detail them up. that WTJ German BB can have masts like that GHQ one does. |

I guess I'd like to see a skilled painter do two side-by-side without doing any mods and compare them. It's hard to see the detail on the transparent models. Maybe it's there. |

link Here is a WTJ 1:2400 scale SMS Roon armored cruiser. I added some bits from my GHQ parts box … searchlight masts and cranes. Mark |

As good as GHQ, seriously? Could you post a side-by-side pic of something? I has a skeptical. I'll go a step farther and say they look better. I find many GHQ models have somewhat odd proportions and just don't look "right". I can't always put my finger on exactly why. By contrast, the WTJ minis I own and have browsed are about as clean, delicate, and well-proportioned as the C-in-C minis I own, but with a lot more detail – portholes, crisp lines, anchors and chains, deck fittings, etc. I agree it's pretty hard to see what they look like in their transluscent freshly-printed state, but a little soaking in Bestine reveals an amazing amount of detail. I don't think the WTJ minis are quite as hyperdetailed as most GHQ models, but then, many of the details on GHQ ships are exaggerated to make them visible. I think the sculptor (er… CAD editor) of WTJ deliberately decided not to do that to the same extent. There are also different limitations on 3D printing than on pewter casting. The biggest problem with both lines of miniatures, of course, is giving them a paint job they deserve. The models are nice enough to be made worse by a poor paint job. (Don't ask me how I know that.) - Ix |
