Second last Alexander battle in testing out my fast rules on a 2'x2' board. Testing is using Peter Side's historical scenario books.

Shaun, you may well have seen this, but here is a link to a Command and Colours game on the same battle, showing their deployment. It has relatively few elements, which may make it interesting to you. GMT also cover the battle in their Great Battles of History series and they have meticulous research – but a lot of units in play, so the level is much lower than you seek, but it may be worth trying to find a graphic of their set-up for that game.

Andy: The Macedonians won, even if I was cheering for the Persians.

Norm: I have not seen the Command and Colors Gaugamela scenario. I do sometimes look at them for deployment options but have not for the last few games (no particular reason ?I can think of).Bill Banks Ancients as a reference is not great either – works better with those rules than when translating to miniatures (normally as each side sets up very close to each other). GBoH I have used once for research (for Sumerian battles). I have never played – my boardgaming was more operational and I always thought I would play with my minis rather than play GBoH. Bill Banks Ancients is an exception as it was fast and fun but even then I have not played much of it.

You always cheer for the Persians and their bowfire! I remember Mighty Armies Ancients!!!!!

Are you going to BIG again?, been painting more Parthians recently…..thinking of Impetus again :-)

I thought you were getting out of 15mm? I still have not got in a game of Impetus :-( I have tried to get to BIG for the last two months but other events have taken precedence. I have promised to take the 10 year old (the one I have played some 20mm ww2 games against) to it, but the stars have not aligned to fit it in. I think I can make the next one, I am going to try.

I have a few full 15mm armies that are opponents for Parthians, but they all have less bows than the Parthians so not sure why I have them ;-)

"Do or do not……there is no try!"……….Yoda(long ago in a galaxy far, far away) :-)

Yep, they're 15mm, just finishing off some figs from my lead pile :-)
