link army one usually does not see at least in larger scale. heavy cavalry made up of foundry/old glory. light cav foundry (though if i did it over would of stuck with old glory). infantry mix of various manufactures. supposedly the slav subject infantry were usually red haired and wore various linen shades of clothing. is that accurate? well at least gave me a theme to use various figures to form the slavs in a coherent way. the total amount of figures is quite large 100 heavy cavalry. 80 light cavalry. 200 slav infantry. only included a sampling of some of the figures. i have a large viking, byzantine, and carolingian frankish army that fits in size wise for my dark age collection. |

Love the army especially the Old Glory. I like some of thei ranges over others and I freely mix them with Foundry with similar success. Thanks for sharing. |

Awesome!!! Now you need to build some Mongos to crush your Bulgars. Wolves of the Steppe… |

nice comments thankyou guys. im almost finished with both the byzantine and carolinginan franks that go along with these and then time for a small break from the dark ages so no mongols for now. 1100 models 350 of them mounted has taken some time especially when one considers little uniformity(outside of the byzantines) from clothing to shield patterns to the patterns for the bow quivers and equipment. every one (dont think the pics showed the inividual equipment) was done different. as for rules simon macdowall has a set called comitatus that covers roughly from the fall rome to the end of the dark ages that has a lot to offer as period specific. neil thomas ancient and medieval rules also cover period specific dark age rules and touches on all of the above armies. |

Very nice indeed; may they smite their enemies mightily and then fall over getting drunk. |

What manufacturer(s) did you use for your Byzantine army? |
Oregon01 | 29 Dec 2014 10:38 p.m. PST |
perris: the byzantines are mostly crusader. many of them bought in bulk when old glory produced them in the states under license with crusader. got them at a favorable price and painted them off and on for a while now. i have a few odds and ends im still adding from gripping beast for variety. the command stands and a couple of tagmatic units are gripping beast (though their horses are quite large in comparison) and i used the gripping beast oval shields in place of the kite shield for crusaders heavy infantry. |
