Which Theatre? What period? Volumes 1 & 2 of Mark Bevis' "British and Commonwealth Armies" probably has all you need. I treasure all four volumes. |

I'll assume that you want the British organisation rather than the French or Belgian. The 'paper' strength of a SAS Troop was; 6 Jeeps each with twin Vickers K MGs (often there were two twin-mounts, one facing forwards and one to the rear, plus a single Vickers K at the driver's position). 3 x SMG sections of 6 men 3 x Bren LMG Here (amongst others) are a few photos of SAS Jeeps in NW Europe; m201.com/sasjalb.htm |

@deephorse, do you have any organisational information on the Belgian regiment? I'm painting up figures and jeeps for them right now, and have been digging unsuccessfully so far to find any specifics. |

miniMo It's only listed as a 'probable' organisation 280 men and 35 armoured Jeeps; Bn. HQ – 2 rifle sections, 1 armoured Jeep with twin Vickers K, 3 Jeeps 1 Squadron of; Sqn. HQ – 4 x Jeep with twin Vickers K, 2 x SMG sections of 9 men each 1 section of 1 x 3" mortar, 2 Jeeps, 1 rifle section of 8 men 5 Troops of 6 x Jeep with Twin Vickers K, 3 x SMG sections of 6 men each, and 3 x Bren LMG All of which, of course, is five more Jeeps than 35! So who knows? |

Were the Bren guns two men? Teams , Gunner and a-gunner? |

@Deephorse, thanks! I'm sticking with my theory that the Belgian SAS hang on to some trucks. They do requisition some local trucks in the summer of '44 after dropping behind the lines (w/o jeeps) to work with the Resistance. I have a motley pair of 1.5 ton trucks for my Belgian Resistance (and these can do extra duty if I ever expand to 1940). In the fall of '44, 5 SAS are issued jeeps and get assigned as recce to II Canadian Corps. There is no evidence that they didn't keep the trucks! I may even give them a 'requisitioned' German truck too. It makes sense to me that they were only issued 35 jeeps, and then had to fall back on their own natural resources to acquire more wheels and sufficient replacements and couldn't rely on the official pipeline. I've seen 2 photos of Belgian jeeps, and no two are the same ^,^ One is unarmoured with twin K guns, one is armoured and bristling with guns all around. So I presume the jeep armament can be pretty varied. @Charles, I'm pretty sure the Brens are just stuffed in the jeeps, and someone from the section would take it out if needed. |

The arithmatic would suggest that the Bren teams were two men. As for the rest, it looks like anything goes. |
