As a bit of a side project James M and I purchased a box each of the armoured and un-armoured Republican Romans and took half a box of each. Over the weekend I finished off the last few figures to complete my Alae.
Over the past few months while painting these I have been slowly re-basing my Gallic and Carthaginian collections so we can play either To the Strongest! or Hail Caesar. More images over on Scrivsland link |

I really like the way you've done these, sort of grim like they've been on campaign a while. The shields are especially good. If you pushed a bit of your basing stuff between their feet it might hide the figure bases, but it's not a criticism. They're excellent as they are. |

I saw these on your blog when I was looking for painted examples of the Vixtrix romans. Yours look great! Bases look really good too. What I really like about your men is that you convey the feel of a Republican Roman Legion very well I think. Their equipment is not uniform, with a number of shield colors and designs, tunic colors and feathers. It looks like an army where men bought their own gear and brought it to the army, which is very authentic feeling I think. |

I was impressed with the locked shields, very authentic. Inspiring me to tackle the Rep. Roman army. 8-) Stuart. |
