I play Galleys & Galleons using 1/450 scale ships made by Peter Pig. They are awesome, but the range doesn't include any galleys etc. I currently have a couple of off-scale vessels (a 6mm junk for example) which scale up just fine once you add some of the PP 4mm crew. Anyone have any experience with these chappies? link
I'd love to know whether they would be easily scaled up. Cheers and Merry Christmas |

I can't help you out with that enquiry, but, in parallel, I recently acquired the Revell 1/450 model of La Reale. The hull, without the ram, is 12 cms long. The oars are crewless and it's a waterline model so I don't think I'll bother making it up. Like the galley you illustrate, it is also under oars and sail at the same time…is that right? It's been a full Christmas day for me so far, but I'm sure a few quiet moments posting to TMP is good for the digestion and sanity. |

The Skytrex Renaissance galleys (and Armada period ships) are slightly oversize for the stated scale (1/600), but not quite 1/450. The deck crews look oversize on Skytrex decks, but if you can tolerate a little bit of off-scale mismatch, the Skytrex and Peter Pig stuff mix fine. I find most of the off-deck Peter Pig stuff (boats, sinking markers, etc.) looks fine in the midst of Skytrex models. I went the opposite direction you did – I had a bunch of Skytrex 16th C. ships, and looking to expand the variety, bought some Peter Pig ships. The Peter Pig fluyts are a nice addition to a galleon collection. - Ix |

Meant to say La Reale is *not* a waterline model. |

I played a game last Saturday using the Skull and Crown Renaissance ships. It was a fun game and the ships were visually very appealing. |

The skull and crown stuff looks nice, but it is not a stylistic match withmy PP stuff. Doc, I heard the same about the La Reale earlier this week in fact. Yellow Admiral, that might be a good enough endorsement. Perhaps I'll pick up a couple in the NY. |

Two medium galleys (to be used as 1/450 galliots) and a large galley ordered. Sigh. I'm so weak. Incidentally, I plan on using some of the galley sails in a Peter Pig Schooner and attempt to make a xebec… That'll be another 200 point fleet/squadron (a small fleet of four ships) :) |

I've also been thinking of scratch-building some xebecs. Ideally I'd get some of the Pirateology ones, but postage to the UK looks unnecessarily high and prohibitive. |

The Pirateology ones are lovely, a bit large so they really make excellent Xebec frigates. HAtty, please let us know how your galley models turn out :) |
