Anyone know a good source for ensigns to carry the colours for my sizable 1/72 Napoleonic armies? I am looking for British, French and their allies for the Peninsula and/or Waterloo campaigns, perhaps a couple of dozen figs, ideally just the ensigns (is that what the French called their flagbearer?). Most plastics do not include flagbearers, or if they do, not enough of them. I'm not much for converting so am looking for 20mm (or 25mm?) metals compatible with 1/72 Hat and Italeri figs. Printed flags too if possible. Thanks in advance for tips, and happy holidays to everyone at TMP! Dave in Edmonton |

The HaT British command pack has several officers, including ensigns – is that the sort of thing you are looking for? Also, SHQ/Kennington sell metal figures that are very compatible size wise (I use their French command packs – not just ensigns, but I like the variety of offciers it gives me). |

I always told myself if I was going to get into big napoleonic battles I'd go for 1/72 plastics. Just soooo much cheaper. One of the things that holds me back is the lack of command figures in packs. I mean really what's the point if you can't have pretty flags:) Also hard to find just plain line infantry suitable to building a large force. It looks like they are starting to get more wargamer friendly which is very good. I'm gonna wait and see if hat keeps producing sets like this before I invest. |

I am not a big convertor but with very small pain- I have clipped a musket or two off a Soldier, and taken a straightened paper clip heated one end to drill into the base, then super glue the hand to the pole, add a paper flag and done. I usually try to paint convert the items needed to make them look correct for that army. Not what I use for the favored battalion but will work a trick when en mass. This reminds me I have several to do. |

Rooter – most modern sets have more than enough command, and HaT's MAC format boxes let you just buy marching poses if that is your thang – me, I like a bit of mix, but the MAC format really works well. The Brit set is very nice as well, not MAC, but "big box", with a separate command box (ensigns, sapper, officers etc). Check 'em out over o nteh HaT website. And when they finally release their French line infantry marching and command, that will be a real treat. |

Marc is right, HaT Industrie has largely addressed this. Sometimes you need to mix and match, for instance, 1806 Prussian Musketeers will need you to buy the Prussian Elites set if you want the standard bearer and drummer to match. But you'd want both sets anyway and they're soooh cheap. With the Brits, you can use both the Peninsular British 'big box', plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=1448, which has several command figures, with the British Command set. The latter includes your ensigns plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=2271. Similarly, various French sets can borrow command figures from one another. Bear in mind that HaT is set to produce its marching 1813-5 French before too much longer, but lost the masters for the Command set, so no news on that. It's worth looking at what command figures you can take from the other HaT releases, most easily by looking through PSR: plasticsoldierreview.com/PeriodList.aspx?period=22#France-LineInfantry The British and Spanish Peninsular Infantry each have a dedicated Command set. Further, as HaT's Marching/Action/Command format (MAC) has been used for late war Prussian Infantry, and is announced for Prussian Landwehr, Austrian and (later war) Russian Infantry, lack of standard bearers and command figures generally will be a problem of the past. Note, HaT tend to give you bare poles, as with metals, so you add your own flags. In metal, Art Minaturen have French command, including standard bearers: schmaeling.de/napoleonische-epoche/franzosen/franz-linieninfanterie/franz-linieninfanterie.php"link Hope this helps |
