Which wargames, in whichever medium, are most tightly focussed on the choices available to a single commander (or command level) and are specifically designed to minimize the interactions at any but this level? |

umm? how about paddy Griffiths Napoleonic wargaming for fun. one of the games is about a generals time allocation. Its very good fun, and a real change of pace, and it is probably just as realistic a wargame as any other, just with a different focus. |

I think "Patriot" by 360 games back in the mid nineties was supposed to be – you were the supreme commander of allied forces in Desert Storm. I could never get the thing to allow me to change phase lines or a unit's operational boundaries. The Patton's best solitaire boardgame is where you are in charge of a single tank. Avalon Hill's B17 game was similar. Some online civil war or Napoleonic game had the player responding to dispatches that he received. I think the computer game "Scourge of War: Gettysburg" has an option to link your view to what you can see while commanding the force using dispatches. |
