Earlier this year I helped Kickstart a card game called Apex, in which you play as different predatory dinosaurs in the Mesozoic. Well, the designer hasn't even shipped that one out yet and he announced another Kickstarter game, this one a miniatures game with dinosaurs with freakin' guns on their heads. (Calling Dr. Evil.) Here is his description:

"Promethean Wars is based in a fantasy environment where the Asteroid actually missed Earth 65 million years ago and dinosaurs never went extinct. Instead of the evolution of human beings, another species known as Prometheans evolved from dinosaurs into intelligent humanoids. Fast forward to modern times, Promethean factions are at war in space fighting over resources and using cybernetic dinosaurs as their ground troops.

In Promethean Wars you will take control of a faction war commander where you will be pitted against another faction. Both sides will fight for control of territory while harvesting precious resources. A winner is determined when they take out their opponent's mothership which can be done by ground assault or nuclear strike.

The game will feature many miniature ground troops, miniature harvesting generators, an assortment of unit and event cards, custom combat dice, and a large gameboard.

Get your T.rex ready to drop into combat this summer in Promethean Wars"

One thing that makes me wary is he underestimated the cost of his first game, Apex, so it was delayed at the component quality may not be of the level he promised. This new game will be even a more expensive project to pull off. This, we got this image, which is making me salivate (no word on scale):

Great designers sometimes are not great businessmen.

Perhaps the series just started on johnnyborgcastings.blogspot.com would be useful for those considering going the crowdfunding route?

The problem with crowdfunding has been, for me, the widely varying ability to, (literally and figuratively,) to "deliver the goods" on time with the quality promised. Some exactly as promised, some slightly ahead of time, and some… tardy.

Women Combat Pilots of WWII has been held up in part because of international politics and bureaucratic obstacles. Who suspected that? Well, I wondered but hoped I was just being paranoid. Nope, the more things change, the more things stay the same.

And some simply failed.

Hasn't finished the first KS, quality will be downgraded, and just concept art for the second?

Don't put a dime into this. You're probably never going to see a single mini.

While cool looking I would like more information. I think the link Mute provided was illuminating and I agree that concept art only is a non starter.

If you want dinos with guns that have actually been produced then go here.

Bashytubits: Nice, but I don't play that scale.

nvdoyle: Apparently this new Kickstarter won't launch until after everyone has received his first Kickstarter game. So I will wait and see how that turns out, and make my decision then.

Guns don't kill dinosaurs, dinosaurs do. (Particularly those with big, nasty, teeth.)
