Howdy all, the first supplement book for GWSH II is now available.

It covers the first month of the war on the Western Front with 16 different scenarios.

It is available in PDF, Black and White Print and Colour Print.

Happy Wargaming!

G'day Shawn,

Sensational! It's downloading right now! Thanks very much for all the work you and your team have put into this book – it looks great and can't wait to get into it. The images you've used are a real bonus too.

Well done – out before Xmas and in the centenary year.

Cheers

Purchased thanks Shawn!

Already received a few emails – yes you can use the scenarios for other rules. There is a break down on the number of stands needed for each scenario – in GWSH and infantry stand is a company, cavalry stand is a squadron, artillery is a battery, mg is an mg company of 2 to 6 guns depending on the army etc. With this you could use the scenarios with many of the popular large scale games, as well you could use it to help run a mini-campaign within the more skirmish scale games as well.

Cheers

Thanks Alan, we found some extra data that helped give us a more accurate situational awareness to a couple of the scenarios which caused some delay in getting it out there but I think it is worth it to have as accurate a portrayal as possible. Robert is a master of map making and performed the lions share of the work!

How timely! My printed copy of the rules just arrived today and now I've just purchased the PDF of the supplement. I'm looking forward to giving the rules a read when I have some time.

Cheers!

Thanks Shawn, your attention to details and the latest research is what really attracts me to the whole GWSH II system. I agree, Robert's maps are a fantastic resource.
Cheers

Thanks, I don't play Spearhead rules but I still bought the PDF for the scenarios as I do own French and German WW1 forces for the 1914 period.

Always nice to have good scenario info!

A great review here:

wargamingnz.blogspot.ca

If you are a World War 1 'gamer, then here is just the gift for you for Christmas.

This scenario book was written by Shawn Taylor and Robert Dunlop to support the recent publication of Great War Spearhead II and is the result of extensive research and quite considerable play testing. It includes 16 wargames scenarios for the Battles of the Frontiers in France in the opening months of World War 1.

Each scenario includes the obligatory historical background, along with OOBs that derived from the latest research and accurate terrain maps produced to the highest quality.

I was involved in some play testing with good friend Keith and I'd have to say that the scenarios offer a fair degree of challenge. The victory conditions of the scenarios have also been set up to not only reflect the historical situations implicit with each, but also to reward replay with a number of permutations of 'plan' available to each player (let alone the variability thrust upon us by Lady Luck').

The scenario book is available in print (either colour or b/w) and also in pdf form as an eBook. It can be purchased from Lulu.

This book is a must have for all owners of Great War Spearhead II. Of course if you have another rules preference, the book will still be of huge value as a source of high quality maps and OOBs. It is thoroughly recommended.

Shawn,

Looking forward to ordering this.

Perhaps you could clarify the different formats:

Is the pdf version the same as the colour or the b/w and how much colour is actually in the colour version to set it apart from the b/w?

Well done.

Alan, the pdf is coloured and there is a fair amount of colour pics etc, it really pops the uniform colour out etc, but not everyone needs that so I have the bw version available as well.

Shawn,

Thanks: bright and shiny always wins the day in my opinion.

In response to a number of questions I have received:

There are two scenarios with Belgian forces – the Battle of Haelen is a primarily cavalry clash (very interesting scenario actually) the other, Tirlmont, is a river defence scenario pitting the Belgian 1st div against a German Korps.

There is another Belgian scenario available online here:

This was one of the sorties from Antwerp. It took place later than the Battle of the Frontiers, hence it wasn't included in the scenario supplement.
