Doesn't look at all correct for a ram. Ancient rams fit on the end of the hull, socketed over the timbers, which spread the impact along the hull. This doesn't. |

It might be a bit of strengthening for the front of a ship, or not. But it doesn't look like a military ram, as the Sgt says, a number of which survive from antiquity. I suppose it could be some new exotic form, but it doesn't look robust enough to do damage. |

Looks very much like a plow share from what I've seen of it – although I haven't seen it with a scale. |

It is 1 metre long. The ship remains nearby are 15m. The profile of the fitting shows it could fit onto a keel. The overall profile of the fitting matches a bow and cutwater from a galley. It is just rather light to be a warship. The form does not match the Athlit, Actium or Egadi rams but we have not necessarily found all the ancient world's rams yet.. |
