Good Day all

Continuing my planning for the Gaine's Mill Scenario I am now trying to plan how to represent the units of the game.

Altar of Freedom is a brigade level game, in that the base unit is the brigade (division and corps are the command level). I have decided that for this condensed model of reality, each brigade will be represented by the regiment in it that was either unique for uniform reasons, or fought well on the battle (Using Sears book as a guide).

This is partly because I want to paint some Zouaves (Zou Zous). Yes I know, they were a minority of ACW armies (or any armies with the exception of the Ottoman 1877 army). Well this is one part of history I am willing to bend more.

Here is my list. Do you have any suggestions? Any guides to the standards and maybe uniforms of the units?

Also Branch's brigade in the AP Hill Division is not the Altar of Freedom scenario OOB. Anybody know why?

No suggestions but I look forward to pictures as you go.

Here a few notes on your OOB that might be useful

US

Griffin – 9th Ma musicians wore earlier gray jackets, pants and caps
Butterfield – 83rd Pa wore French chasseur uniform: dark blue jacket piped yellow, light blue full pants, blue bonnet de police, white gaiters
Reynolds – 13th Pa had bucktail on cap
Bartlett – 16th NY wore straw hats and white pants
Newton – 95th Pa used Zouave uniform of dark blue jacket with red trim, light blue full pants, blue cap with red trim, leather gaiters

CS

Hood – 1st Tx – carried both a state flag and a cotton issue ANV flag
Cunningham – brigade all probably carrying First National flags
Fulkerson – 23rd and 37th Va probably carrying First National flags, 10th Va carried state flag only
Gregg – 1st SC carried a dark blue state flag with a crescent in the corner and white palmetto tree surrounded by a white wreath on the obverse side. On the reverse was the unit designation surrounded by a wreath

Branch's brigade was at the battle, having arrived the night before. If it was left out in your source somebody must have slipped up.

I too look forward to seeing your finished project. What miniatures are you using?

KTravlos22 Dec 2014 7:51 a.m. PST

My goal is to use Pendraken 10mm. I have decided that my 19th century collections will be in this scale.

Glad to help. When you have chosen the units you want to use to represent each brigade PM me at ritoewsATmts.net

I have good sources on almost all of the flags carried by both armies at the time and I'll be happy to share what I can find.
