My wife says that I don't read I study. She reads John Grisham, James Patterson and Danielle Steele. She says that what I read, all history, is packed away in my brain for future reference. Be it a discussion with members of her family who think they have a total knowledge of history from watching movies on t.v., or with the local high school students I encounter when giving school presentations. So what is it, reading or studying?

What a daft question. Your wife said it. Wife is always right. Didn't you learn anything by your studying?

I read. If I'm studying I put a lot more effort into remembering.

Do we read or do we study?
Yes.

I study the facts so that I can forget them at the most inopportune moments :( ;)
Cheers and Happy Seasons all.

It depends what I am reading If I am reading something interesting I will remember it If it is something uninteresting it goes in one side and out the other

Particularly when I start a new and perhaps exotic period, there is a lot of study, complete with taking notes about weapons, uniforms, units involved, and leaders.

Study for me. Even fiction. I can't not study text. Lots of fast readers skim to get the gist. A friend of mine does that. I can usually pick out fine details where he cannot. I've got a great memory. Unfortunately I usually only retain useless facts!

I do both…but not at the same time because my wife has told me I can't multitask.

it's more reading than studying, if facts sink in it's due to repitition than any actual effort.
