"Pakistani officials say jets and ground forces have killed 58 militants days after Taliban fighters attacked a school in the northwestern city of Peshawar, killing 149 people, mostly children. As Pakistan began a third day of mourning, the troops ambushed and killed at least 50 militants in Khyber near the Afghan border. Another eight were killed in southwestern Baluchistan province, including a senior Taliban commander…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |

What I really hope happens is that the Pakistani Pres cleans out the ISI while he's at it. Maybe even better if both Pak and Afghan clean out their intelligence agencies from all the idiots who keep sponsoring one branch of terrorists to spread hate and discontent in the other country… |

Yet at the same time the Pakis are building sniper towers along the Indian border in Kashmir and stuffing the terrorist camp there with terrorists to invade India. With allies like this who needs enemies. |

Yes Bangor, you are right, they "deal" with them, though I suspect your definition of that and mine differ considerably. Mine means they negotiate and sympathize with them way too much. ------------------------------- I think its sometimes too easy for people in the west to be overly critical of the Pakistani military response – as someone there said in terms of such criticism of being overly sympathetic etc, the 5000+ dead Military and police personnel perhaps tells a different tale. Thats not to say that Pakistan as a state and indeed its security establishment is not divided, but i suspect the average Brit or Yank in the street would up until recently have thought (from reading right wing rags mainly fit for the toilet) that the Pakistanis only played at such efforts and probably would have had minimal casualties in line with that. Given that in for example Ulster elements of our SF colluded with Protestant murder gangs I don't think any of us (well at least in the UK) can afford to think that we can be too smug. |

As opposed to the Catholic ones? I agree that the situation is a difficult one, but still, given all the infiltration and actions recently, you'd think they'd try a bit harder. Perhaps now, they will, especially in bringing the lawless NW areas to heel. |

Mako I don't think that bar the very odd one there was much evidence of collusion by Catholic members of the Security Forces whereas in the case of at least one RUC patrol serial, the whole team were involved in planting bombs, escorting terrorists – and if anything it was I believe worse in the UDR. |
