"Israeli lookouts on the Golan Heights are scanning the Syrian landscape for the black flag of the Islamic State after three small jihadi groups close to the border this week pledged fealty to the radical group. The jihadist militias are among a number of rebel groups, both Islamist and secular, fighting the Damascus regime of Bashar al-Assad in the area opposite the Golan Heights. During the three years of the Syrian civil war, none of the groups in this loose coalition has attacked Israeli border positions, focusing instead on their battles with regime forces. These skirmishes, sometimes only a few hundred yards from the border, are easily visible from Israeli positions on high ground…"

If they are … they won't be there for long … If the IDF/IAF as anything to say about it … |

Daesh will be in for a bit of a fight if they get much closer… The IDF will hammer them. Could escalate though which might make an even bigger mess in the region. |

Honestly, I'm waiting for DAESH to start something with Israel. I figure the Israelis will take less than a month to curbstomp DAESH, and maybe another couple weeks to finish off Assad while they're at it. |

Ah… they will find the Israeli's considerably less pleasant than we. |

Israel would be crazy to occupy another hostile Arab population. |

They don't have to occupy … only kill … |

To repulse incursions against the Israeli border? Yes, pure firepower should do the job. But to 'crush' Daesh, or the Assad regime means advancing and occupying territory. I think they know better than to invade Syria. |

The flag is good PR, should garner Daesh some recruits and cash from their Sunni supporters. I don't see it doing much beyond that as the Shia do not support them at all and they are the ones most likely to go after Israel if any would. |

I think it would be like a large cross-border raid. However, I too think to stop Daish incursions, firepower may be enough … Don't think either the Israelis or Assad wants another war … However, Assad may be too busy to do anything about it. And I'd think the IDF would "crush" elements of Daish that possed the most threat plus any others in the area and go back across it's own border. But I agree some very heavy airstike may be enough … and be the most likely action. At least as this time or in the near future … |

Actually the leaders have been talking to each other. Israelis are not stupid. Basically don't do anything along the border and keep talking with us and we will leave you along. Great source of intell for the Israelis on what is going inside Syria. Israel has set up mobile field hospitals along the border and have been treating injured Syrians there and taking more serous wounded under guard to a major hospital. |

That is interesting … pretty smart those IDF guys … |

Isis has been on the Golan Heights since early November. Captured a border checkpoint, then. Surprising enough, they have been better than average neighbors and haven't bothered Israel at all. Seems Isis is just interested in taxing traffic thru the checkpoint. When the Syrian government sent a plane to bomb the checkpoint, Israel shot it down. It has become a running joke in Lebanon. A number of "comedy" skits on TV have made fun of their so called neighborly friendship. |
