The other night I was at my LFGS watching some guys play a miniatures game. They were using a laser pointer that shown down on the table top to make a line on the table for line of sight. I stupidly forgot to ask where they got it and it has been bugging me ever since. My Google-fu has also failed me. Does anyone know what I am talking about and where to find one? |

So a laser pointer making a line instead of a dot? I remember seeing a bunch of laser pointers with various heads, I think one was a line. |

I have one of these: link and some extra button cell batteries to feed it. It does well enough for determining line of sight in casual games. I'm not sure it would pass National Standards Institute testing for straightness over distance, so employing it in a tournament with a cash prize might cause a scandal. |

try looking in a hardware store, you might find something along those lines there. |

Laser line levels, that's what they're called in the UK, and you should be able to find them in hardware stores. They're normally used for helping mark walls for DIY projects, but this sounds like a very practical alternative use! |

These got attention recently when Army Painter introduced them -- and apparently they are out of stock around the world: link I used the Black Friday coupon from Ace Hardware to get one of these: link It's been confiscated by Santa's elves, however, and I haven't fired it off yet. |

I've had a line laser (laser with collimation lens) since the late 1990's in my gaming toolkit. They are fantastic. I found one on Amazon for you for $10. USD link

Warlord sells the Army Painter one, not sure if it is in stock at the moment. Used it last night to determine firing arcs. Works well. |

Has anyone tested the Army Painter one to see if it is actually straight? I bought three cheap ones from Harbor Freight and they all emitted a bowed line. |

Hiya >>>>> Has anyone tested the Army Painter one to see if it is actually straight? I bought three cheap ones from Harbor Freight and they all emitted a bowed line. >>>>>>>>> How did they bend light? I got one as pictured by CorpCommander, $5 USD from a reject / $2 USD / remainders shop. These things are really useful in any Naps or later games. Regards

It is a laser pointer that passes through a lens that scatters light into a line. Lenses were all flawed. |

Got the one CorpCommander linked to, is excellent for wargaming. Didn't survive as a plaything for my kids. |
