Can anyone reccommend the best book on the Irish who fought on both sides in the ACW? |

A decent, straightforward "easy read" book was "The Greatest Brigade" by Thomas J Craughwell. It deals only with the Union's Irish Brigade however. |

Melting Pot Soldiers by William L. Burton is a good book on all the immigrant units in the Union Army. Of course, the Irish make up a good part of the tale. |

And there is a book called Clear the Confederate Way about the Irish in the Rebel army. I can't recall the name of the author just off hand. |

Joseph G. Bilby's "The Irish Brigade in the Civil War" is good too. Less illustrations than Craughwell but a lot of contemporary photos of those involved. |
