Oh dear… I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt here… but this description is rather unnerving:

"While broadly following this plot, the ITV adaptation appears to be changing some details, describing the series as "a western set in the Dark Ages of Britain's mythic past". Rather than Denmark, the action will take place in the mythical "Shieldlands" where King Hrothgar is already dead and replaced with a female leader (or "Thane"). Apparently it will focus on Beowulf's personal journey as well as the politics of the region."

Does it really need all that to "to make it relevant again"? Whats wrong with just sticking to the original bl**din' story??! I fear its been "Peter Jacksoned"! Will Beowulf be riding a rabbit pulled sleigh or an armoured goat I wonder???

Aha

"will take place in the mythical "Shieldlands""

and "..filmed in the north-east of England"

So that'll be North Shields and South Shields then!

I think I'll pass.

My expectations faded quickly: the words "ITV adaptation" told me all I needed to know.

One supposes that Grendel will have a Geordie accent and they will all sit round the meadhall drinking 'Broon'.

Sounds bloody horrendous – Braveheart may well lose its place as the worst medieval film ever.

it will focus on Beowulf's personal journey

Sounds like what I'm told X-Factor sounds like. "Personal journey" indeed. Fiddlesticks.

I saw the headline and had an image of Grendel smashing chairs and flinging drunken cowboys in a tavern, until the Man With No Name Whose Name Is Beowulf steps in and shoots Grendel's arm off with a Winchester rifle…

It's going to be a disaster … and you can take that to the bank …
