Hi Guys What do you think a 28mm mounted Missouri Guerrilla command pack should consist of? I was thinking two command figures, a flag bearer and one other but not sure what that would be. Any recommendations please. Phil – companyd.uk |

I'd think it unlikely that guerrillas carried a standard, at least not the vast majority of them. |

A mounted fiddler, playing. And a mounted banjo player, playing. Either or both musicians could be Afro-American. |

No standard bearer or musicians playing. The two command sound good. If you want just add two regular guerrilla figures. |

No musicians? Foo, you're no fun. I was going to work him up to a complete New Orleans jazz band. |

Phil, how about a grizzled NCO?

I agree that mounted standard bearer would be unlikely, but your customers will probably appreciate one anyway. It has been said that Quantrill carried a flag, but that has been disputed. It would also be interesting to add a scout, maybe a forager/cook loaded down with supplies and pots. Maybe even a Native American guide. |

maybe a personality pack instead? Quantrill, George Todd? Dave Pool, Bloody Bill Anderson? or the principle characters from 'ride with the devil'? |

At battleflag.com, they offer a Quantrill flag in their Transmississippi set. They're a good looking product, but I haven't used the flag yet. |

Good comments – Thank you very much. Maybe if I did an open handed figure people could add a flag or add what they like. Carbine , shotgun etc. |

I like your idea. How about the open handed figure but include a carbine or shotgun or possibly both in the pack and then leave it up to the consumer to put whatever he wants in it. |

If it's not too small, pistols ought to be one of the choices for the open hand. Possibly include a Yankee hostage/captive. |

zippyfusenet, how about if he makes all the figures open handed and then you can make a fully mounted orchestra riding into battle playing their instruments because after all that is what they did during the war didn't they? |

Disco Joe, your manners mark you as ill-bred as you are ignorant. You are certainly no gentleman. Here is that contemporary painting I've been looking for of the 43rd Battalion of Virginia Cavalry, John Mosby's Partisan Rangers. Note the third and fourth figures from the left: Confederate mounted fiddlers!
This painting, a recent reconstruction, but thoroughly researched, illustrates that units colors carried in the field: link I trust you will now apologize for your boorish behavior. Either that, or crawl into a culvert and eat . |

zippyfusenet , you are the one who is ill mannered or is totally out of touch with reality. Have you taken your medication today or have you taken to much medication? The gentleman was asking for serious advice of what to make and you came up with a crazy idea of something you felt he should do. Something that if even was done was so totally limited and would not be something the majority of war gamers would want. Now I take it you will now apologize or put your head back into your lower posterior from where you apparently keep it. |

Not off my meds. I was channeling John Mosby. Although I suppose if I was really channeling Mosby I'd have climbed through your computer screen and shot you. He was that kind of guy. I don't know who you're channeling, some spiteful killjoy, I hope it's not your true self. Look. The point behind the fun I am having is: This is the *American* Civil War. Not the English Civil War or the Spanish Civil War or the Roman Civil War. It's full of American character and American characters: Mosby's fiddlers, JEB Stuart's banjo player, contrabands and bounty jumpers and mad inventors and privates telling off their officers. If you don't appreciate the American character of our Civil War, you might as well be playing checkers. If you prefer checkers, that's your perfect right, but stop peeing all over my American Civil War game. tobasco can make up his own mind what figures to produce, and a mounted banjo player might be more popular than you imagine. Okay, the OP asked about Missouri guerillas and Mosby was a Virginian. But the Missouri border is ride-with-the-Devil territory, and the Devil is reputed to be an excellent fiddler: YouTube link |
