Dare I ask what happened to the 'Imperial Eagle' forum?

The author was being a bit defensive, shall we say, in response to some very gentle criticism of his rules but I'm surprised he (or Bill?) has pulled the plug so quickly, given the widespread publicity TMP could have given him, had he not been such a (insert appropriate descriptive noun) in dealing with questions from potential customers.

Now that you mention it, I haven't been getting spammed (from him)lately. I hope he does well with his rules, but the whole thing just stunk.

John the OFM14 Dec 2014 6:47 p.m. PST

Good riddance.
But, let's treat this like a real old fashioned Irish wake, and have a few beers!

do I hear a second?

John the OFM14 Dec 2014 6:54 p.m. PST

Seriously, though, The Editor gave him his own Board, and all the guy does is slag anyone who doesn't think it's the best thing since Column Line and Square.
He even called the membership of TMP idiots for not appreciating him.

Perhaps I exaggerate a tad…
But it's gone now, unmissed, unlamented.
Unless those scalawags and rascals at Frothers saved it in the WayBack machine, it is gone.

[Deletes paragraphs he just typed, and raises a glass instead….]

What board?

OFM, can we put it his tab?

Rebelyell200614 Dec 2014 7:45 p.m. PST

That went as well as the Madonna-Letterman interview. I do wonder if things would not have fallen apart so quickly if the membership had a vote on that board beforehand.

I thought the concept of allowing a game designer to start his own board was an interesting experiment.

Unfortunately, the experiment ended up not unlike that one of Victor Frankenstein's.

My unfortunate experience is that although many rules designers claim they welcome constructive feedback, in fact what they want to do is walk around with their fingers in their ears going la la la la.

That is also why now I only playtest for people I know very well. Life is too short for a ton of grief.

KTravlos15 Dec 2014 4:27 a.m. PST

It is a pity. He had enthusiasm and I appreciate that. And the rules did seem interesting. But he had no discipline and ZERO sales ability. Some people are born natural sales-persons, and some could really use a class or too in sales management.

It is a pity he has let TMP, because there are tons of people here that could had taught him how to do a better job.

A pity.

deephorse15 Dec 2014 4:36 a.m. PST

He's been here before. He didn't take feedback too well then either.

Tank Top15 Dec 2014 5:56 a.m. PST

Yes, last time he was posting as "Napfan" about his figure range (which weren't bad) I expect he'll be back for another try when the dust has settled.
Shame really as his products seem to be OK.

I've been called worse by better…

As for raising a beer, I'm a Diet Dr. Pepper man and will raise one of them (doing so right now) instead!

"This is the ultimate in Napoleonic Wargaming and it will inspire you whether veteran or newcomer."

- If that's your description of your own rules, you're possibly not ready to engage with a potentially critical public….

Walter White15 Dec 2014 10:31 a.m. PST

Th gentleman had a thin skin with regards to any comment that was less than enthusiastic.

Yikes. If that was really his attitude… yikes.

Sgt Steiner15 Dec 2014 10:58 a.m. PST

A pity as Imperial Eagle are a decent set of rules just needing a bit tighter explanation of some stuff.

Authors petulance was hard to bear however

vikingtim15 Dec 2014 2:54 p.m. PST

Still, now everyone on TMP has heard of Imperial Eagle. A certain school of thought would suggest that any publicity is good publicity.

StarfuryXL515 Dec 2014 7:00 p.m. PST

Hearing of it and buying it are two different things.

alien BLOODY HELL surfer16 Dec 2014 5:05 a.m. PST

I got accused of being a rival trader by him for questioning his attitude and the way he replied, and how he reacted to Sgt Steiners very good, unbiased and useful review. As I am now a trader, please send me all your money, I will then invest it with help from my good friend Tony Reidy and his new miniatures company which will bring you the best ever miniatures;-p

Dare I ask what happened to the 'Imperial Eagle' forum?

The designer of the rules asked for the board to be withdrawn.

A prophet is without honor in his own town. Shake the dust of TMP off your sandals!!!

Less boards. Lovely.

Nice twist on the old Connard Sageism – well played sir…. ;-)

Slappy17 Dec 2014 9:37 p.m. PST

So were the rules normal, good or lousy?

Heinz Good Aryan18 Dec 2014 11:06 a.m. PST

sadly we'll never know now… lol

Slappy18 Dec 2014 5:57 p.m. PST

Shame – perhaps we need to experiment again with this and adjust the parameters and not have a overly sensitive rules designer. On another forum i frequent there is an ask the editor portion of the forum and its great for players to understand the reasoning behind some decisions.

So did everything that got posted in threads on this board just get deleted? What a waste of everyones time.

Yes

Personal logo Doms Decals Sponsoring Member of TMP23 Dec 2014 12:32 a.m. PST

That does seem rather an advert for not using any similar boards in future – post on a rules board and everything can get nuked on the owner's whim, stick to the Napoleonic board instead and it doesn't….

Sorry - only verified members can post on the forums.
