I have a couple of questions for folks who have had some experience playing GdeB.

1. What is the smallest size game in terms of units that would be reasonable to field and still enjoy the game? Can you for example have an enjoyable game with just a brigade of 4 to 6 battalions of infantry and some artillery and cavalry support?

2. Can a game of GdeB be completed in aprox. 3 hours?

Finally, I'm open to suggestions on rule sets that are similar in scale to GdeB that can be played within the limits set out in my questions.
Just to let folks know I have played LaSalle and enjoy it but I'm looking for a set of rules with a little more chrome.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi to answer your questions

1) yes a brigade of 4-6 battalions is the smallest but it would play better as 2 brigades of 3 or 4 battalions.

2) A game on the scale you are talking about can certainly be completed in the time frame you are looking at.

hope that helps

We played quite a few smaller Russo-Sweish War 1808 actions with GoB.

Hello Lonkka1Actual

That looks like a great blog. I have bookmarked it to read later.

We successfully use GdeB for our War of 1812 games. So, most of the battles are small; 4-6 battalions, some artillery and very little cavalry. GdeB works well.

If the opposing forces are close to each other ( a small battlefield) yes, you could probably complete it in three hours provided everyone was familiar with the rules.

We usually play with about 3 x that number of troops in about 3 hours.

GdB works perfectly for what you want.
