Do you have everything you need? Are you halfway there? Just starting? |
chuck05 | 14 Dec 2014 5:20 p.m. PST |
My terrain collection will never be complete. |
Maddaz111 | 14 Dec 2014 5:36 p.m. PST |
what in every scale… never. If it was… well I am sure I would find something to add. (like running out of unpainted figures, or reading all of the complete works of shakespere, or seeing all of the 1001 movies to see before you die..) |
Pictors Studio | 14 Dec 2014 5:36 p.m. PST |
How could a terrain collection ever be complete? I have entire cities to build still. And this is after building entire cities. |
epturner | 14 Dec 2014 5:38 p.m. PST |
Not. I don't have near enough. Although I would encourage all right thinking gamers to purchase Paper Terrain products… Eric

I need one more. I don't know what, but I know I need one more. Or maybe two. |

It's pretty vast – to the extent that I can't find stuff – but I'll never really ahve all I need. So, maybe 60% complete. |
nazrat | 14 Dec 2014 6:07 p.m. PST |
Since I am always getting into new eras, genres and scales it will never, ever be complete. |
79thPA | 14 Dec 2014 6:13 p.m. PST |
Does anyone have everything they need? I buy a lot of terrain now but, for years, I would rely on my brother (or others) to supply terrain. |
Rrobbyrobot | 14 Dec 2014 6:15 p.m. PST |
I'll never have all I want. But I do have enough to have a lot of fun games. |
Condotta | 14 Dec 2014 6:32 p.m. PST |
Incomplete. Not even near Event Horizon. More in post – the newest Tabletop-World terrain. Have Wish List of Grand Manner queued up. |
Privateer4hire | 14 Dec 2014 6:33 p.m. PST |
Too complete. While I was active military I bought scads of Flames of War terrain because I had tons of space to play. Now that we're retired and in a smaller space, I've got OOP terrain I don't really use (train tracks, train station, Calais House (doesn't fit my other terrain), rivers w/ford, escarpments). Can't seem to find anyone willing to buy w/o my taking a big loss so in their boxes they stay. |

Back ten years ago, as my professional work started to take off, I decided to spend money on getting stuff painted. In the end I couldn't decide what army, what style, what painter etc. So I farmed out the job I hated the most, painting terrain. Fast forward ten years I've had a few things pro painted, and painted a fair bit myself, but I've got tonnes of painted 15mm terrain that looks gorgeous and not only have I never regretted the investment but I need more! Landscaping for wargames is very satisfying. |
PatrickWR | 14 Dec 2014 8:52 p.m. PST |
I can put together a skirmish board for pretty much any environ in fantasy and sci-fi, so I'm gonna say yes. More importantly, my shelves are full! So there's not much room for anything else. |
Weddier | 14 Dec 2014 9:11 p.m. PST |
I can meet the minimum requirements of the games I play, but I don't have all the possible examples of terrain that could be reasonably used by the armies I have collected. I always have a terrain project in the works. Currently it's swamp. |
miniMo | 14 Dec 2014 9:28 p.m. PST |
How could a terrain collection possibly be complete?!? |
Whirlwind | 14 Dec 2014 11:40 p.m. PST |
I'm about 75% done (I know more or less which armies I want in which scales and thus which terrain I'll be after). I'm hoping to get to 95% over the next year. |
Martin Rapier | 15 Dec 2014 12:14 a.m. PST |
You can never have too much terrain and it lasts forever. I'm painting some more houses and bridges right now, and some supplementary stream sections are next on the list. |
pigasuspig | 15 Dec 2014 12:49 a.m. PST |
I have a comfortable amount for my 4x3 foot table. But my hills and fields are warped, my roads are broken, my trees are shedding, my fortifications are unfinished. So it's not for lack of terrain that I'm about to undertake a huge expansion . . . |
Mako11 | 15 Dec 2014 1:02 a.m. PST |
No. Perhaps 25% there for some periods, and scales, but less than that for others. Still, enough stuff to put on the occasional skirmish game, spaceship/spacefighter battle, Winter wonderland, naval battle, etc. |
dampfpanzerwagon | 15 Dec 2014 3:52 a.m. PST |
I have hundreds – literally hundreds of pieces of terrain and like others I doubt it will ever be complete. In fact I have dozens of sketches of terrain pices I want to build. Tony dampfpanzerwagon.blogspot.co.uk |

If I am gaming the desert, then no problem. Otherwise, big problem. |
Frederick | 15 Dec 2014 6:26 a.m. PST |
I have to agree with the general thread that you are never finished making terrain – like Texas Jack, if the battle was being held on a soccer field then I am OK I have a reasonable collection of generic walls/fences and some nice buildings, just not enough of them – as well as a few (very few) hills, but (given that I am mostly gaming historical) I am very short of trees, roads and rivers – this remains a work in progress |
SaintGermaine | 15 Dec 2014 6:34 a.m. PST |
For me making terrain is therapy. I'm 67 years old and have arthritis. I'm retired and it keeps me active. Besides I'm always seeing new techniques/tricks I want to try. I recently bought a crapload of Tea Lites at the dollar store to try some new stuff and 3 spools of floral wire to make faux neon signs (a challenging trick). So never enough terrain. Lots of what I do is in paper though so occasionally I will throw stuff away. I can't recommend the dollar store enough. Always finding useful stuff there. |

ordinarybass | 15 Dec 2014 10:16 a.m. PST |
My terrain collection… -The Desert terrain is mostly complete and useable in most any genre, though I do have plans from some sci-fi mining aparatus. -The Urban Terrain is complete enough for a 6x4 board, but I'm currently working on assembling enough structures to fill an 8x8 table for convention games of 28mm scale mech battles. Also working on an elevated train system.. -I'm about halfway there with my 10mm urban terrain setup. -My fantasy city/town terrain is complete enough for skirmish games, but I'd like to add some levels and elevation. So no, I've got plenty of terrain for gaming, but I'm not nearly finished. |
myxemail | 15 Dec 2014 10:24 a.m. PST |
Exactly. Never complete. However to get closer to that goal I strive to keep all my periods and figures in one scale or size. Once I waver and go into a different sized figure… I then have to duplicate most of the scenery. Mike |
TMPWargamerabbit | 15 Dec 2014 12:26 p.m. PST |
Six five drawer filing cabinets worth, another three drawer cabinet and then there is all the hills and ground boards stored in garage. Add in seven apple boxes for the bulky items and we are good to go. Can cover naval, aerial and european terrain. Desert and jungle like the only two zones weak at the moment. Generally 25/28mm scale with a smaller collection of 15mm for ACW and ECW?TYW collections. |
Old Contemptibles | 15 Dec 2014 12:55 p.m. PST |
I have a huge collection of terrain. Including several sets of Geo-Hex and many gaming mats. I can always use more trees. Never will have enough trees. I will always be collecting terrain. I am never going to have enough. |
waaslandwarrior | 15 Dec 2014 2:51 p.m. PST |
I'm out of space. So I think I have enough. BTW, 80%of my collection is for 28mm games, the rest is for 15mm. |
etotheipi | 15 Dec 2014 3:28 p.m. PST |
Depends on scale and genre. 6mm – Not a hardcore 6mm, so I make due with whatever I got. 15mm – Just starting this scale. 28mm – Have waaaaay too much. Need more. 1:1 Modern – Complete, though parts of it are difficult to access. |
jameshammyhamilton | 15 Dec 2014 3:34 p.m. PST |
I have probably got enough 15mm WWII terrain and that is the main period I play that uses significant volumes of scenery of any quality (my other main period is 15mm Ancients and in general scenery in that genre is poo). I can fill 6 tables with terrain which is I think enough but I would like to do some improvement work to what I already have and will probably add more just because. |
Striker | 15 Dec 2014 3:41 p.m. PST |
I don't have everything I need but at least 50% of it for what I want to game, some is still to be built and painted. |
