Has anyone tried putting an artillery or air defense turret from the Critical Mass Mercenaries vehicle line onto a Khurasan Red Faction tank hull (Red Banner)?

AVAMANGO14 Dec 2014 6:04 p.m. PST

No but i have put a Critical Mass APC Merc turret on a Matchbox Commando toy, the only thing you will need to keep in mind is that the APC turrets are all cast in white metal including the under side connecting lug so the lug might require some laborious filling to get it to fit into the substitute model vehicle.

Metal is fine. I can work with that. My goal is to create a mobile AAA vehicle and SPA gun without using the Critical Mass vehicle chassis. They are 100mm long and just a little too big for support vehicles (IMO).

The large or small merc tank?

AVAMANGO14 Dec 2014 6:56 p.m. PST

Well if you need any of the Critical Mass Merc APC turrets i have several mix n matched ones i could sell or trade with you for and as i recall the connecting lug is 19mm across. :) zac

Actually the turrets from the air defense vehicle and the heavy artillery turret.

Thanks for the pic. Looks like it could be done.

I like the Warmonger. Reminds me of the Soviet IS-7 Heavy Tank.

The turret lug is a few mm smaller than the Red Banner, nothing a magnet couldn't fix.

The barrels would make it look like a T34/85…sort of.

BTW, those are the turrets from the large CMG tank. The smaller one would likely work better, but that configuration isn't without its charm.

Looks like it would work. The Khurasan Red Faction line is missing a self propelled anti air vehicle and self propelled artillery. Thanks for the pics.

The CMG turrets on that hull look great, make it look like a slightly higher tech than the original… as though it is an upgrade pack provided by a third-party ala modern T-series upgrade kits from various random user nations!

I wonder how it'd go with the Taipan or Cane Toad…

While on the subject, what about the larger GZG vehicles? Or are they all the sort of "hole and pin" kind of turret design versus the more expansive "actual turret ring" provided by CMG/ Khurasan?

darebear15 Dec 2014 5:22 a.m. PST

GZG are hole in pin design. QRF turrets would fit them. I use GZG vehicles for another one of my 15mm armies though so I never thought of them since I like to keep vehicle pools homogeneous as much as possible.

The Taipan might work as well. It is slightly smaller than the Red Banner.

Taipan and Goanna MBTs share the same turret socket as the Red Banner. Accessory sockets, too.

Best,
JBR
