Finally got around to finishing the AAR for our first BBQ-DBA battle fought back in September. Alas, the photos came out a little fuzzy, but still capture the epicness of the spectacle.

BBQ? — Big Battle Quad-armies! Three armies per side, 4 regular stands on a double-sized sabot for each element. Table size and all measurements doubled. Not quite book-legal allies, we were working with what we had for figures to put together (6) quad armies. Rome and 2 allied Gallic commands vs. Carthage with Syracusan and Iberian allies. Played with 2.2+ amendments.

Full write-up with lots more photos on the blog: link

Here are a few photos with the highlights:

The armies about to clash — in the foreground Gauls sweep towards Syracusans who are holding back; in the center Carthage presses up the valley against Rome; in the distance Iberians and Gauls hurtle towards each other.

Barbarians clash upon the hill, this will be a long, swirling, and bloody battle.

The Roman General personally clears Carthaginian skirmishers from the flank of his line.

And then holds the slope from an uphill attack by the opposing Carthaginian General.

Carthaginian Cavalry withdraws from the disadvantageous battle on the slope, but giving the Roman General an opening to personally sweep onto the flank of the Punic battle line, breaking the Carthaginian command. With the bloodbath on the flank hill still swirling, Rome and her allies have destroyed more troops than the broken Carthage has inflicted on them, and so the day is won. In the far distance, a block of Syracusan troops belatedly cross the hill to threaten the far Roman flank, but are held in check by swift Gallic Chariotry.

I like the look of the game. I once did Big Battle 25mm DBA with two elements per sabot.
