Hi chaps, I am in the process of organising a refight of the Battle of Holowczyn in 6mm. As part of this, I will need an extensive Russian defence line (with lots of gabions). I envisage a raised embankment with a row of gabions along the top, interspersed with artillery batteries. I'm looking for one of those amazing ideas people have to turn common household items into wargaming goodies !! A bit like the A Team in miniature… Any thoughts ? Phil

Small pieces of doweling cut to size, roughed up, and fixed into position. |

I used doweling for my 6mm WSS:

I used wooden plugs (for the making of wooden furniture) like these:
The dorsal lines are already there. Saw them of at the desired length and add crossing lines to simulate the latchwork. |

We sell some very spiffing 6mm gabions. The original master was actually made by weaving fine wire round uprights so they look just the job! |

Thank you for the fantastic ideas. I knew I could rely on TMP. I did think about using some form of wooden rod / dowling today (t'was quiet at work…). This is definitely a possibility. The wooden plug is genius. The only problem I can see is a concern over their size and getting enough of the things. Mr Baccus – I have contributed towards your coffers many times sir (and appreciated every perfectly formed figure). I did notice that you have gabions but I need enough to fill approx 3ft. Would it be possible to confirm how long each strip is ? Thank you again – this is very much appreciated. Phil

The gabions come on 20mm strips each containing 4 gabion. They are designed to be mounted end to end to create continuous lengths. Although there is currently no image of them on the Baccus site this will be rectified very shortly. One pack will give you a running length of 24cm for a cost of £4.85 GBP including VAT. |

Thank you very much for the additional information. Given the other scenics that come with the pack (stacked cannonballs), I think you've decided it for me. Cheers, Phil
