Just finished my first 5 Valkyries in fighter mode. Next up is battleoid mode … then guardian. This is Vermilion squadron with Rick Hunter, Max Sterling and Ben Dixon all there … with a standard brownie to round out the squadron. I've also added Roy Folker into the group as well. Good stuff. I don't know about the points though. I don't generally use them but so far what I have played has been pretty balanced. RPG Tactics is an easy enough game to play but there are a lot of subtle interactions that make things VERY interesting. Missiles looks really powerful… But they are really hard to use! AM weapons, dodges, rolls and formations really bite into them. It's really cool actually. And woe to the poor mecha that gets caught alone! I have to say RPG Tactics is quickly becoming one of my favorites. |

@Tgunner: Awesome, I'm happy to hear that!! The core points are not that bad … but there are issues with the smaller additions to the core squadrons. I'm not concerned myself --- but I can see all sorts of min/maxing that can be done for tournament lists … but not my problem … I'll play with the core stuff and have fun doing it :-) Tons of AM out there … but there has to be something to cut them down so they don't rule the day. @darthfozzywig: Thanks! |

I hear you. I'm still playing the Basic scenarios and skirmishes using squads rather than squadrons, so I haven't used the support cards in the way they were meant to be used. It will probably be a month before I play standard games with 300 points or more. So I haven't had the chance to see if these cards break the game. In fact, right now they are my squadron cards. Heck, my current games look more like Battletech because they have no more than a dozen or so mecha in the whole game… That's even more the case now that I'm using Spartans, Tomahawks, and Glaugs! If only the Valkyries and Glaugs were smaller… 😄 By the way, your Valks rock! |

Yeah, I'm working on 200 points … that will keep me busy until xmas. Then on to 200 points of Zentraedi … although a buddy of mine is working his Zentraedi now. 300 points is a little ways off … so I hear ya there! Thanks for checking out the pics :-) |

Keep one thing in mind, Tgunner. With missiles, if you use an AM system you can't also dodge. That helps the missiles a bit. |

Yeah, that is what I was alluding to. Do I take the chance of shooting down the volley withy my AMs, or do I dodge? Those are the kind of tactical questions you wind up asking. You dodge if the attack is low… But AMs might be your only hope if the bad guy's dice are hot! Also is it worth one of your super valuable command points to dodge? Not if you have AM missiles.. Maybe! There's a lot going on in RPG Tactics. You just can't run off to the bathroom during your foe's turn because you've got work to do keeping your mecha alive. Not so much a problem for the Zents and you're talking about Regults. Life is cheap after all, but command points aren't! A fun game indeed! |

Great thinking here … it is a tough decision … I really like games that present straight forward rules that also provide a depth of tactical decision making. |
