I'm about to start painting wolfhounds for my Dark Ages Irish army. I have painted a couple before, and they were, well, of indifferent quality. Would anyone care to provide any hints, tips or suggestions as to how best to paint wolfhounds? Do you have a link to a wolfhound painting site?

Loveliest dogs in the world, but I'm -slightly- biased.

I think you can get away with simply painting them dark grey and then extensively dry-brushing with a lighter gray. Leave the muzzle, his flanks and the ridge on his back a bit darker.
Some of them had darker spots on their bodies and quite a few of them a beige/tan belly.

That said my great-aunt (who at one time had 12 of these gentle giants) once had a silvery grey one that was almost white.

That's pretty much what I did. Several different shades of grey.

WillieB,
I've got to agree with you, they are beautiful dogs. I used to love watching them in the local St. Patrick's Day parade. Ultimately, I found out that they have rather short life spans. I love my dogs too much, and am not up for that sort of bad news that often.

Thanks to you and HarryHotspurEsq for your input. I will give it a try.

Ik know. I wish they'd invent a universal medicine that cures them of that infernal bone cancer or the twisted stomachs.
But the love you get from anyone of them can't be put in words.
They really soul-bond with you , your wife and children and become so much more than just a family member.
So gentle, so sweet and so majectic. And a friend that won't even think twice if you're ever in a difficult spot. He or she will die protecting you, not because of training or conditioning but simply because they unconditionally love you.
Almost makes you feel inadequate as a human.

But yes 7 or 8 years is the best you can expect reasonably.
It almost seems like a cosmic injustice. Sygynn became 11,5 and Khamsin nearly 10 but they were the exceptions.
