I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction in getting accurate uniform information on the Russians that fought under Suvarov in 1799 against the French. I have Haythornwaite's Uniforms of the French Revolutionary Wars but this resource has almost no information on the Russians. Thanks! |

The baseline for most Imperial Russian uniformolgy is the Viskovatov. Mr. Mark Conrad translated much of the work into English: Organization : link Uniforms : Vol 7 link Vol 8 link Vol 9 link To see the illustrations, you can follow the links (by number) to the illustrations here: Vol 7 listat.ru/T07/T07_sod.htm Vol 8 listat.ru/T08/T08_sod.htm Vol 9 listat.ru/T09/T09_sod.htm Here is Mr. Jonathan Gingerich's tabulation of uniform distinctions, including various revisions to the Viskovatov based on modern research: link Some period illustrations, courtesy of Markus Stein : link If there are additional questions, such as for specific units, please do ask. - Sasha |

I've been looking over George Nafzinger's OOBs for 1799 and I've noticed that some of the Russian forces have significant cavalry. Eureka doesn't make any Russian cavalry beyond Cossacks so I'm wondering what I could use for Russian cuirassier and dragoons. |

Russian dragoons have been done by Eureka, but not officially released yet – email Nic for details. Hussars and Cuirassiers are on the agenda. John |
