I know people use a lot of other scales, especially 1/300th, but for this poll, I'd like to narrow it down a bit to see which scale minis people use for their post-WWII, Cold War Era jet combat games, between the following choices:

1/600th

1/700th

Given that a lot of Cold War Era aircraft are still not available in 1/600th (especially bombers), I think the above question is an interesting one. In many cases, plastic, resin, and/or custom-printed planes are available in 1/700th, which may be driving some people to use that scale instead.

Even a lot of aircraft on Shapeways don't come in 1/600th scale, though some people will consider rescaling them, if needed.

Obviously, if you don't use either scale, you don't need to answer the poll.

I'll add in a separate question, for those using other scales for their aerial gaming.

I mix 1/600 and 1/700 but I much prefer 1/600. I am a guy who likes tiny miniatures but have found the 1/700 plastic boxed sets from Japan to be just too small.

For me, 1/600th now, primarily as well.

Though initially I did purchase quite a few 1/700th scale aircraft before 1/600th moderns were produced.

I still occasionally consider using the smaller scale planes to run some strategic bombing games, since heavy bomber selection is rather limited in 1/600th scale.

In the rare (other than Korean war in the 1950s) case of mixing strategic Bombers with other Jets I would use my "legacy" 1/700th bombers with my more numerous 1/600th jets.

Nothing says "Nuke!" more than a B-47, B-58, B-50, or B-52 – unless it is Cold War Soviet bombers.

Aside, were the Soviet strategic Bombers used in combat after WW2 with conventional weapons like the B-52/B-1/B-2? I just realized I have not a clue to the answer…

I think some cruise missiles were launched at the Israelis by Egyptian/Russian heavy bombers, but that's about the only example I can think of.

1/700 all the way, because they're usually more detailed and scale-correct and the newer ones are easier to paint I think (using washes).

Plush they're very light, so you can use very thin sticks to support them.

All this is also the reason I'm using 1/350 and not 300s.

Tumbling Dice's 1/600 range is rather nice, although I need to finish my Ancients project first. :)

I am working on setting up a Shapeways store and have some aircraft available in 1/1000 at the moment. This question is particularly relevant for me.

1/600th, is the scale for playing with friends. It paints up well, a largle selection, and low cost.
