I'd like some critters for 15mm Quar games. Mostly farm animals, but maybe herds of something. So far, we've just put balls of cotton in a fence. They're sheepish, but non-detailed enough to pass for maybe something related to the Quar cadier. What sort of things might be about the right size, and not be recognizable real animals? I'd consider converting some small plastic animals. I've got some kind of large thing used by Jawas in Star Wars, and could probably find something to do with it. It is bigger than I'd want, though, and might make an effect on the battle rather than just being scenery. Any suggestions? andy |

28mm chickens from a craft/toy store. Paint them differently and they could be a Quar herd animal. Should be cheap.'Ostrichix'? |

Not a bad idea, thanks. I'd possibly do something with the head, but I like it. andy |

Also consider snipping off heads, tails and/or legs to make alien creatures. The Quar horses look to me to be regular quadrupeds with their neck/head removed. Trying similar with plastic animals and repainting as others suggested might work. |

Really nice miniatures… though they don't have quite the "domesticated" look to them… "I ain't milking the Xeno-cows!" Chalfant |

any 15mm/25mm Victorian conquest of mars beasties would do the job. |

Angel Barracks has some 6mm giant bugs that could work in 15mm too ("herd bugs"): link Some of the other things he has could work as small 15mm too. |

Yeah bugs would be perfect. The Quar are mainly insectivores, according to the fluff. I have some giant termite-hive things for my 28mm Quar terain. |

Those Khurasan "cattle" are certainly interesting. I could use a herd of those, for Traveller adventures. Wonder if they taste like beef? |

I definitely need to make some termite mounds. So far, except for a couple of buildings, the part of Alwyd where our Quar are fighting looks an awful lot like Normandy … link Thanks for the suggestions above.

Perhaps animals that require "planting" on the ground, like fan corals that require anchoring. They could be placed near crops, to protect them from insects, thieves and other pests. You can even them crop herders. Behavior wise they could be like the sentient stinging plants in the film "Minority Report", used to guard the greenhouse and the owner: link This one (Sea Whip or Gorgonian Coral) looks like half the tip of a feather:

Or make the "security hedge" using artificial leaves that look like giant tube worm feathers:
