Forgive me this question i know may sound absurd, yet I am a native to Queensland Australia and really have no idea on the prevalence of these trees in your fine Country. |

Loads of birch trees all over Britain. The mountainous bits of Wales are a bit bare when it comes to trees though! link |

Birch trees quite like shaded valley slopes, but as Cerdic says, they are all over the UK including Wales and Scotland. Hence the Birks of Aberfeldy: link |

One of the commonest trees here – especially on higher and wetter slopes where oaks suffer. The Welsh name is Bedwen – occaisonally shows up in place/house names. Note the current shortage of trees in upland Wales is mostly artificial, caused by overgrazing. In medieval times the slopes would have been heavily wooded. Not sure how high up the treeline goes, but trees have appeared in experimental enclosures above Cwm Idwal, so say 450m above Sea Level. |
