I bought these two HMS Shannon models at Cold Wars 2014, in the flea market, and immediately thought of the TMP posts about converting them to waterline models. So out came the dremmel tool, hacked off the keel, and is now undergoing painting :) I've also started to acquire more Arifix 1/600 Napoleonics for the same reason. For small engagements or frigate action, they'll be a nice break from the 1/900 Portsmouth miniatures.

Nice job. I did this back in the '80s and that spawned a whole slew of scratchbuilds at her (1/500ish) scale. Always mourned that she was a one-off from Airfix.

I did the 1/600 Victory thing about 10 years ago… bought 60 of them when they were on sale at $1 USD each from a place in Arizona. Bob will be around shortly to chime in on this too, no doubt.

Have at it!

Thanks for the kind words! It sure would be awesome to find these for $1 USD a piece nowadays! However, ironically enough, they may have to wait a little while..as i'm also now in the process of Ironclads from Bay Area Yards.

I have a couple of dozen of the Airfix Victory cut down to waterline and have used them for Nelsonic battles.

"Captain, there seems to be a large…kraken?..approaching starboard side!" …….an' it looks hungry!

Looking good !!! I am now starting the 1577 HMS Revenge of brand Zvezda of 1/350 scale.
Beware …. it will attack the bow !!!

Thanks for the compliments, everyone! After collecting and assembling a few, I'm going to also be using them for action on the St.Lawrence River in 1812. And ModelJShip, that's a very attractive ship and model, it'll look great no doubt!
