Being a librarian (with my own sword, too), I'm a fan of The Librarian TV movie series. Last night TNT began a new weekly series based upon it, and the opening premiere (basically a back-to-back two-parter) aired last night. It was as delightfully over-the-top as you could wish. If you're at all a fan of goofy modern fantasy stuff in the vein of National Treasure, I highly recommend this. As for gaming, there's always been possibilities in the series, but now that they've added three more Librarians and a Guardian (Rebecca Romijn, another reason to watch ), the possibilities for pulp tabletop gaming increase considerably, especially as the different characters demonstrate different skills: weapons and combat expert, a linguist and historian whose also a Texas Barron brawler, a thief and electronics expert, and a physics super-mind. The villains are also suitably solid picks for the tabletop as well, consisting of ninjas, thuggish henchmen, and a diabolical cult-leader (possibly sorcerer?). And, of course, vampires, demons, zombies, mythical beasts and so forth, as the series plans to explore different myths and legends as focal points for the Librarians' adventures. What rules and figures would you use? Let the discussion begin! |

I watched it also and had similar thoughts. I think you could easily gin up statistics for the "Pulp Alley" rules. Jim |

Savage Worlds would do it well. |

I also recommend watching the three original Librarian movies, especially the first, as they help you understand who and what Noah Wylie's character is. It looks like TNT is making them available online: link The props can be a bit hokey, but it's still great fun. |

I watched as well and I too had thoughts of how gaming it would be rather fun. My next set of rules on the list is "Pulp Alley" from all that I have read about it one could set up the stats for them and create a league. Now I have to look for a set figures in the 15mm range to field all the characters. :D |

Saw a promo for the show and the first thing that popped into my mind was the show Warehouse 13. |

Except Warehouse 13 came some 5 years after the first Librarian movie. If the show lasts past the first season you can probably expect more Noah Wylie in the 2nd one. By then his Falling Skies series will have come to its end. I watched the movies a few years ago (and always catch them when they replay) and wondered way there wasn't a series back then. I am glad the series has more of the feel of the first two films. I thought the vampire one just didn't flow like the others. |

Another set of rules you could use is .45 Adventure, which you can get at Brigade Games. It already comes with a list of Artifacts, with their effects. You can design your characters to include different forms of Combat Knowledge, Research Knowledge, Professional Knowledge (safecracking, driver, pilot, etc.) Tim |
